Sydney R1: (WC) Alex De Minaur d. Benoit Paire 6-3 3-6 7-6(1)

Great win for the young "aussie" but Paire was playing at 50% or less.

Sydney R1: [WC] A. De Minaur def. B. Paire 6-3 3-6 7(7)-6(1)

What a win for the 17 year-old Aussie!!
Alex was attacking Paire's forehand very effectively. Paire didn't even try most of the time.

Paire always plays at 50%. That's why he's tennis' ultimate spaceman.

Paire was not 100% fit but that's still a pathetic defeat nonetheless

not very true, Paire is not always playing his match after arriving from a 15 hours flight the night before

A very good win for the youngster, was down a break in the third but clawed back up, targeted the weaker Paire FH well.

yeah and at the TB he was literally returning everything to Paire's FH side.

De Minaur played well but Paire was just clowning. He was hitting tweeners in baseline rallies. If he was exhausted why didn't he just pull out?

The comments on his Insta by disgrunted betters are still funny. Like, betting money on *Paire* to definitely win a match? More fool them I say.

I'm disappointed obviously . I mean his second to latest Instagram post had the hashtag #letsdobetter in reference to his SF at Chennai. Jetlag may have played a part, but I still doubt most players even in Paire's position would've lost to 17 year old #333 in the world. I kind of thought he looked mentally steady for his standards in Chennai, but maybe not .

Not expecting a great showing at the Open.

Why are you using (") marks? He is Aussie by birth.

Paire is a joker, lost to a very raw junior.

De Minaur is 17, but he looks way younger. Most people are bigger than him with 15.

Was at the game live. Paire struggled in hot coditions (40 degrees approx. on centre court). Short points with unsuccessful drop shots. Unforced errors at a high rate. Poor decission making. Lack of interest! Hence the 17 year old Aussie wins...see what happens in his next match.

well done Alex! great win, he look like a 13 yo
I like his game, excellent tecnically but he need more weight/muscle and power
and he was so focused and determinated

always a good day when clowns like Paire, Monfils and co. lost
