This is a competition that was previously run by
last year but ended early because of lack of help, however we will alternate this year to try to keep the contest going until eventually the MTF Player of the year is chosen in November.
Criteria to vote
Of the players in the poll above, you may vote for one. There is no set guideline on how to vote, as it is intended to get the views of any regular GM poster. Some common points used to base votes off include:
- player who played the best tennis
- player who showed greatest improvement
- player who had the best results
Depending on the amount of tournaments a week, players will be chosen based on results and 12 players are put into the poll (in the case of a 3-tournament week, all the Semi-Finalists). Voting always stays open for 3 days.
In a system that is yet to be decided (feel free to have your say) players will be chosen from each of the weeks of the month based purely off the results of the MTF polls. A new poll of 12 players will be made and there will be again 1 vote per member, until after 5 days of voting the results of the poll are logged into a table from which the year end standings will come. In this competition members will vote for the player who they think is the best player of that month using similar criteria across a longer time frame.
Player of the year
The MTF Player of the year will go to the one who has the most points accumulated from the Player of the Month polls, and will be announced along with the MTF Awards that will likely be held at the end of the year.
This weeks options:
The winner in Brisbane, with notable victories over Thiem, Raonic and Nishikori
Brisbane finalist, defeating Wawrinka in semis
Defeated Schwartzman and Nadal in Brisbane before losing to Dimitrov
Semi-Finalist in Brisbane defeating Troicki and Edmund
Won Chennai, beating Medvedev
Made his first final in Chennai before losing to Bautista-Agut
Semi-Finals in Chennai
Beat Ramos-Vinolas to make Semis in Chennai
Won Doha. Survived 5 Matchpoints against Verdasco before beating World #1 Murray in the Final
Runner-up in Doha after beating Berdych
Came very close to beating world #2 Djokovic, having already upset Goffin and Karlovic
Beat Tsonga to reach the semis in Doha, losing to Murray
It's understandable some people will just vote for their favourite player, but while you may give reasons for your vote you cannot directly try to influence another's vote.
As said, we are taking in suggestions on how to decide who makes it into the player of the month poll and how the points system will work over the year.
The poll is public.
