Official now: Kevin Anderson withdraws from AO

Rumours had it that his hip injury was still bothering him too much, but it's official now that he won't be active at any tournament Down Under. Next tournament he's gonna enter seems to be Delray Beach

However, better to rest and practice unlike last year when he did the contrary and had a total number of three victories before grass-season started. Hopefully his injuries gonna end some day...

South Africa’s leading tennis player still hasn’t recovered from a hip injury and will miss the Australian Open.

South Africa won’t have high-profile representation at this year’s Australian Open.

Kevin Anderson, local tennis’ leading men’s player, on Monday announced he has been forced to withdraw from 2017’s first Grand Slam tournament due to his ongoing hip problem.

“Unfortunately, I’ve made the very tough decision to withdraw from the Australian Open this year,” the 30-year-old wrote on Twitter.

“I’m very sad to be missing one of my very favourite events each season.”

Anderson had a torrid 2016, battling an ankle and shoulder injury before briefly returning only to pick up his latest affliction.

His lack of match fitness and form has seen him slump from a career-high world ranking of 10th to 67th.

“I’m still recovering from an injury sustained last year but things are looking much better and I’ll be back in competition soon,” Anderson wrote.

“I hope all the fans and players enjoy the tennis (Down Under) this year.”

He hasn’t really tasted much success in the tournament anyway, with the fourth round being his best finish to date.

The Aussie Open starts on Thursday.

not really a fan of him but it does suck to see him now going through these injury problems the last couple of seasons.

Really unfortunate that he suffered injury just after cracking top 10 . Hope he can be back soon.

Tennis and humanity died big time here. Hopefully he gets better soon... but how much longer can I keep hoping when he's always injured

How someone who barely moves on the court can get injured so often?

Such a shame, he looked so good when taking Djokovic to the brink at Wimbledon and beating Murray at US Open in 2015... hope the big guy comes back strong.

What's happening to him? Such a shame he's getting injury problems after the amount of success in 2015. Could have done even better in the next years of it wasn't for injury. Now I'm afraid it's impossible

Re: Official now: Kevin Anderson withdraws from AO

Such a shame after his amazing 2015. Don't know what happens to him but I hope he can be back with the level of tennis he was playing in 2015.

Hardly matters tbh. Not like he was one of the favourites or something...

Have a good recovery!
