I could play on until I am 40, says Djokovic

Doha (AFP) - In bad news for his opponents, 12-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic said on Friday that he may continue his astonishing career until the age of 40.

Speaking after securing a place in the Qatar Open final against Andy Murray, Djokovic said he would play on for as long as he could.

Asked if could still be on tour aged 40, the Serb replied: "Why not? You're going to see a lot of me in the future."

Djokovic, who turned professional in 2003, celebrates his 30th birthday in May this year.

Earlier this week in Doha he played against 38-year-old Radek Stepanek, one of the oldest players on the ATP tour.

After beating the Czech veteran, Djokovic said he was "excited" about the longevity of Stepanek's career.

"It shows me that I can have as long a career as he has. If he can do it, I can do it, too," said Djokovic.

Meanwhile Federer's 2004-2007 rivals disapeared at the age of 29.

Damn, now the cat is out of the bag.

When Federer hears this, he will surely continue playing until the age of 50. So careless with these statements, Nole.

Great news, any talk of premature retirement and loss of motivation is now over.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics should be back on the table as well.

not his choice tbh , let's see if he can reach 35 as a professional tennis player then decide .

I mean he can keep faking injuries and confuse opponents as long as he lives , not sure about the real tennis though .

CALL 911 , FEDERER JUST GOT OUT OF JAIL

Look at that booty, show me the booty
Give me the booty, I want the the booty
Back up the booty, I need the booty
I like the booty, oh what a booty

Shaking that booty, I saw the booty
I want the booty, lord what a booty
Bring on the booty, give up the booty
Loving the booty, round booty

Why not ?

Currently he has got 12 seasons behind him, with every GS entered therein.

So, just six seasons more to reach Federer's 18 seasons.

As for GS titles in the last six seasons:

Agassi 2, Lendl 2, Federer 1 so far.

Djokovic has/is:

- perfect body for tennis
- incredibly flexible
- takes meticulous care of his health
- doesn’t put as much strain on his body as someone like Nadal

Yeah sure go ahead, but when Olderer and RAFA retire, he'll lose all 'motivation' again.

Re: I could play on until I am 40, says Djokovic

haha maybe he should focus on this season rather than 10 years from now. While he did just win a 250, it was his first title in like 6 months. Make no mistake, if Djokovic began to have a few poor seasons where he didn't win slams I think his attitude regarding this would change dramatically. He hasn't even looked like he was having fun on court in a quite a while, he looks frustrated a lot

not everyone is like Federer where they honestly appear to be having fun on court despite rough periods and losses

I must say I am surprised by this comment. Pleasantly surprised, of course. Would love to see Djokovic stick around for as long as continues to play decent tennis.
