Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

Judging their game play and on court strategy and technique which player do you favour across the surfaces? Playing their best?

Which player do you see staying over the years as a top player and not fizzling out too soon?

Do you think Gasquet is the "mini-Federer"? Is he kinda like how Federer was in 2001 where he had all the talent and displayed all the shots but just need to get his confidance and game together to get on top?

BTW, What injury was it that kept Gasquet out for about 6 months after the 2005 U.S. Open?

Thanks.

Also, which Grand Slam do you see Gasquet possessing the biggest threat? Is he a better play on Clay, the French, or better on hardcourt?

It was an elbow injury. Then he had an abdominal muscle strain after the Davis Cup tie against Germany.

I actually beleive he will be more of a threat at Wimbledon, but he is almost equally as good on all surfaces. He must improve his fitness though if he is to be a threat at any GS.

Nadal on every surface. If Gasquet had 1/4 of the mental toughness Nadal has it might be close.

Re: Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

I'm actually rather impressed by Richard's game, I've been impressed by it since the first time I laid my eyes on it and from that point on, it's lingered in my mind, poisoned my thoughts. Very tantalizing. All of these things being said, sooner or later, Richard's going to be one of the players beating up on Roger ( be it 2 years or 4 years from now ). The difference between Richard's game in comparison to the game that the boy from Mallorca plays has a lot to do with style and mentality, Richard is so aggressive, this along with the fact that he has so many weapons at his disposal makes for a scary combination.

Maybe it won't happen in 2007, but he's going to be a monster on tour, also in response to the comment about him being mini federer, that's not too far from a stretch. I think that the main difference between the 2 players ( comparing them at the same stage in their career, based on strictly age) would be the fact that Roger came to net a lot more frequently.

Richard has these options in his arsenal, but rarely takes advantage. He's much more of a natural baseliner than Roger.

Re: Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

Gasquet is better than nadal on grass, and Nadal is better on clay. Regarding hardcourt, time will tell.

Re: Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

Gasquet is so overrated. Ugly FH, overrated BH and not to mention, he is pretty brainless as well. 10 years of getting his ass handed to him by the top players and he still hasn't figured it out that he isn't going to beat them by standing 15 feet behind the baseline. Says a lot about his tennis IQ or lack of.

Re: Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

Gasquet obviously has always had the aesthetically more pleasing looking game, he plays more of a traditional style of tennis in terms of his strokes / technique

but I voted for Nadal simply because I PREFER watching him play. I don't know what it is, but there is something raw and gritty about Nadal's tennis that I find enjoyable. like maybe how its imperfect? it's not always about the perfect placement on the racket as much as it is what he puts behind the swing. I think a lot of casual tennis players can enjoy Nadal for that reason, its somewhat relatable to go out on a court and just swing with all you've got

<3 Roger Federer <3 David Ferrer <3 Juan Martin Del Potro <3 Stan Wawrinka <3

------------------------ <3 Richard Gasquet <3

Re: Gasquet Vs. Nadal?

Gasquet's mental deficiencies make him less interesting to watch imo.
Lol, this thread goes back to 2006 -Gasquet is the ultimate underachiever.
