Re: FOXTENN electronic line-calling system makes the grade

I personally trust Carlos Bernardes and Pascal Maria over such technology. Their GOAT umpiring (i.e. FO 2013 SF) is a standard that will not be met by tech for years to come.

Re: FOXTENN electronic line-calling system makes the grade

FOXTENN employs, on each court, more than 40 ultra-high-speed cameras that generate 2,500 frames per second for a total of 150,000 frames per second, this allows the system to pinpoint the exact point of contact with the court, contrary to Hawk-eye which uses a projection calculation. Currently a Hawk-eye system costs $70,000, a guy I know had it installed in his own personal court, there's no info atm abut FOXTENN installation cost.

Re: FOXTENN electronic line-calling system makes the grade

If some pro gambler can put his hands on one of these jewel of a system the amount of data that could be tracked down and the accuracy would give him a big hedge, I'm gonna email the company to ask a few questions about it if someone's interested in data-mining.

So if they switch to this the commentators will have to call it FoxTenn, not Hawk-eye, right?

Is this is very accurate... hopefully the system will replace the line umpires as well... and just automatically call if the ball is out.

Good, gives Hawkeye an incentive to up their game and improve the system.

It'll be a good day when technology is capable of replacing umpires/judges entirely. No more dodgy calls. But that's probably a long way off.

I think Hawk-eye technology has already reached is full potential. This system is totally different in the way it figures out the point of contact.

How soon could it possibly be rolled out?

that's entirely down to how much Foxtenn costs and how increasing orders might make it more accessible, this info hasn't been disclosed yet.
