Korolev Breaks into Top 100; Becomes 1st 1988-Born Player to do so

This week, Evgeny Korolev enters the Top 100 at #100. By doing so, not only does he become the youngest player in the Top 100, he also becomes the first-1988 born player to enter the Top 100.

Here are the historical figures for the last three batches: (please inform me of corrections)

Batch 1985
1st player to enter Top 100: Tomas Berdych (b. 9-17-85)
Entered Top 100 at #98 on Feb. 2, 2004
Currently Ranked # 13

2nd player to enter Top 100: Nicolas Almagro (b. 8-21-85)
Entered Top 100 at #98 on Sept. 13, 2004
Currently Ranked # 45

3rd player to enter Top 100: Marcos Baghdatis (b. 6-17-85)
Entered Top 100 at #94 on Jan. 31, 2005
Currently Ranked # 9

Batch 1986
1st player to enter Top 100: Rafael Nadal (b. 6-3-86)
Entered Top 100 at #96 on April 21, 2003
Currently Ranked # 2

2nd player to enter Top 100: Richard Gasquet (b. 6-18-86)
Entered Top 100 at #95 on Sept. 29, 2003
Currently Ranked # 27

3rd player to enter Top 100: Gael Monfils (b. 9-1-86)
Entered Top 100 at #79 on May 2, 2005
Currently Ranked # 30

Batch 1987
1st Player to enter Top 100: Novak Djokovic (b. 5-22-87)
Entered Top 100 at #94 on July 4, 2005
Currently Ranked # 21

2nd Player to enter Top 100: Andy Murray (b. 5-15-87)
Entered Top 100 at # 72 on October 3, 2005
Currently Ranked #16

3rd Player to enter Top 100: none yet
But possible contenders to enter the Top 100 are Sam Querrey (b. 10-7-87, currently ranked #157),Fabio Fognini (b. 5-24-87, currently ranked #235) and Alex Kuznetsov (b. 2-5-87, currently ranked #265)

Batch 1988
1st Player to enter Top 100: Evgeny Korolev (b. 2-14-88)
Entered Top 100 at # 100 on Sept. 11, 2006
Currently Ranked # 100

Close behind is Juan Martin del Potro (b. 9-23-88, currently ranked #104) who is I'm absolutely certain will be the 2nd 1988-born player to enter the Top 100. Also in the hunt is Marin Cilic (b. 9-28-88, currently ranked #201).

Congratulations Evgeny!

Great achievement Evgeny

I think that Del Potro is younger than him (he isn't even 18 years old) and he is currently ranked 104. So the title of youngest in the top 100 of korolev will go to del Potro in the near future. But Evgeny will still be the first one to do it.

I like both players, so i'm happy for them

NALBANDIAN / SAFIN / FERRERO / MOYA / LUCZAK / DEL POTRO

Berdych - Andreev - Acasuso - Mathieu - Tursunov - Gaudio - Simon

Vliegen * Malisse * Chela * Zabaleta * Gasquet * Calleri * Djokovic * Starace

Retired and not so active players¬

SJENG SCHALKEN [] PAT RAFTER [] THOMAS MUSTER [] GUGA KUERTEN

great for him!!!
hope to see him in main draws

Marat: Last question: what do you think of me? Dinara: You are my god! When you play, I love
to see you. When you lose, I am even sadder than when it is me. When you are wounded, I suffer.
When you speak to me, I drink your words. When you come to see me playing, I am with the angels.

Thanks for the news. Hopefully it's not the last word of the 1988ers.

I believe Gasquet entered the top 100 for the first time in 2004.

He finished 2003 in top 100 (93) and entered the top 100 after the Grenoble title, obviously that year too.

Thanks.

Yes, I remember he got in directly in a few ATP tournaments in early 2004 before falling back out of the top 100. Then he returned with the Monte Carlo semifinal.

Congrats Korolev.

But I hope he isn't the youngest in the top 100 for many weeks.

Evgeny Korolev (b. 2-14-88) #100

J. M. Del Potro (b. 9-23-88) #104

Aww good for him, but this means we Djokovic fans can't whine about him being left out of lists because he's not the youngest in the top 100 anymore

Congrats for Korolev though

Troicki - Djokovic - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Berankis
Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka
Retired but always loving Ferrero - Ancic - Kiefer
