Agassi, Cochet, Connors, Decugis, Lendl, Perry and Rosewall: Surpassed.

Mind you, that is not to suggest Federer is greater than any of them, especially Lendl, who made 19 major finals and holds several amazing records.

In the end, Federer's clutch play (9 wins out of 10 finals) made the difference.

Lendel only has 8 slams? I thought he had more. Go Roger.

Slow down. Let him win RG and more ordinary singles titles

I think Borg and McEnroe pissed Connors off far more.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Didn't Cochet win 7 grand slams? I know he won a French National Championship title but I wasn't sure if it classed as a grand slam or not?

This is quite an achievement..............I'm so proud of Roger As I recall some of his early matches, when he displayed the mental strength of a Sand Castle, it never dawned on me, back then, that one day I would be clapping for Roger as he won his 9th Grand Slam............I'm so happy for Roger and very proud of him.

I was pretty clear about the "greatest ever" thing in the first post, and I agree there's a long way to go before he's a clear cut above the 8-Slams club, but RG, IMO, isn't a necessary condition, just like Lendl never won Wimbly but in my book he's ranked higher than Agassi.

Fair enough. I just wasn't sure if anything before 1925 at the French Open counted as an official grand slam as only French players were allowed to enter. But that doesn't matter. Federer has overtaken a hell of a lot of great players tonight. He's 25 and he has won 9 grand slams. Phenomenal achievement

I'd easily agree that Fed is the best player of this generation. Comparing to other generations though just isn't right. There are too many differences and there's no real way to know how one player would fair against another if they both had had the same conditions.

I don't think anyone would argue against that, or against your integration methods for that matter

Incredible. I feel very happy this is all happening at a time when I can watch it and appreciate it first-hand.
