Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Nadal has pulled out of the upcoming China Open:

I wonder if this ankle injury hadn't occured whether he would have beaten Youhzney in the Quarter Finals and still be in the U.S. Open.

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Big surprise.

He shouldn't commit to events that he has no intention of playing.

I think its more of a cautious pull out

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

An observant Sky commentator noticed he was not moving well when he played Youhzny. It seems consistent with the observations.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Is Federer schedualed to play anything before the Madrid Masters Tournament?

Maybe he could play there to garner some more points.

What surface type is the China Open played on?

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Nadal's ranking points are currently at 4625 and after the U.S. Open concludes his points will move up to 4800. Then, once he doesn't play the China Open his points should fall back down to 4625 again so pulling out of the China Open will have little bearing on his ranking points.

Players who go deep at US Open would be idiotic to play in China the following week.

I just checked Federer's website and he's playing Tokyo before the Madrid Masters.

Would be cool if he could win both Madrid and Paris masters.

Why??

I distinctly remember Marat Safin flying to Tashkent, Uzbekistan shortly after his 2000 US Open win and winning the tournament there as well.

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Expected withdrawal from Nadal. I wonder whether he will play in the DC tie, normally they would not need him to win.

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Federer was never playing China anyway - I think he's playing Davis Cup and Tokyo and he's slated to do Madrid, Basle and Paris but I think he'll miss either Madrid or Paris as he wants to win Basle quite a lot.

Re: Nadal Pulls Out Of China Open.

Federer could get up to about 8500 points by the end of the year with Madrid, Paris, win at Tennis Masters Cup and Tokyo.

Probably. But he still had like 4 or 5 days of rest before it.

It seems that Nadal's ankle may have been bothering more than he acknowledged in the post match interviews. From Jon W

I've been meaning to get this off my chest and I will do so now: The more I see of Nadal -- on and off the court -- the more I like. I saw Nadal in the locker room prior to the match wincing as he adjusted his shoes. Yet when asked what role a bad ankle played in his loss, he refused to acknowledge a problem.
If that is true, I hope that his ankle is not really bad and heals quickly. I also like that he refused to cite it as a reason that could have affected his performace and just said that Mikhail deserved the win because he played better.

I like a lot of players.
