Are There 17 Year Old Out There Doing Better Than Young On The ATP?

This is not a Let's Bash Donald Young Thread. The boy has got tones of talent, but he isn't strong enough to compete with the grown man on the tour yet. I see that he just made the juniors' semi. I wonder if there are other 17 yr old players out there doing better than he is on the pro tour?

querrey, del potro, and cilic were all playing juniors when he was the top junior in the world and they have all done way better than him on the atp

my favorite was the worst number 3 player in the world

Here's the opposite question that I posted some time ago. Who did WORSE than Young at his age?

Here's three:

1. Federer
2. Roddick
3. Rafter

I know Querrey is 18. What's the age for the other 2?

Blake is older than Roddick and Federer.

As for 17 year olds, men take longer to develop, some boom early like Hewitt. But I think it's better to wait until 20.

Nadal was already a good player when he was 16.

Interesting way of looking at things, Tennis Fool. Early success isn't always an indication that a player is going to be great down the line. I guess time will tell. It's hard to believe that Federer was a late bloomer.

I don't like that professionals are allowed to play in junior events at all.

Should be like the other sports, once you step up, you can't step down.

Absolutely. I don't mind Juniors playing in the main draw as amateurs but being able to turn pro and continue to play the Junior event is just wrong. What other young player with almost no success even on the ITF circuit attracts the kind of wildcards this kid does? Something is wrong both with the system and the kid's support team.

adding Evgeny Korolev from Russia

ok, he became already 18 in February, but beat Davydenko, Seppi, Moya, Horna, Serra this year and forced Gaudio in RG in 5th set
