The Americans were not chanting against Roger. The J-Block was chanting against Roger. The Americans cheered for Blake because he is the American, but they were also appreciative of Roger.
I think a good match to consider is the 05 US Open final. Agassi was the crowd favorite, but at no time was there chanting against Roger. The crowd cheered heartily for him when he won. Don't judge Roger's likeability by last night's crowd. The J-Block was in the house.
I loved the crowd during Agassi's matches. It was electric and simply amazing. But, as Steve Tignor's blog said, today, "His J-block, which took the glamour factor in the building down about 10 notches, helped mainly by irritating Federer."
The J-Block did the same thing to Nadal, last year US Open, and it was more than obvious they got to him.
