He always loses to strong players in US Open.
Do you think he can win an US Open in the foreseeable future?

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

No.

It's a bit like Henman at Wimbledon. It's his only realistic chance, the crowd would love him to do it, but there's the pressure, his game is fragile, mentally he doesn't see himself as belonging at the very top of the game, and other players are better.

Just trying to figure out a scenario in which Blake wins the US Open is pretty difficult. He could take out Nadal but someone else would have to beat Federer, then he'd have to deal with the nerves of being in the final so he'd probably need an opponent who wasn't a slam winner and was also a nervous wreck. But then again Gaudio won Roland Garros so these things do happen from time to time.

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

Come on, comparing Blake to Gaudio is a bit harsh. He isnt that much of a choker, especially not recently. He failed to take some chances against Roger, but then who doesnt choke against Roger?
If he could hit his best form in the 2nd week he could definitely beat anyone except for Roger. If there was a year when that happened, and Roger didnt play or was upset early, there is a chance Blake could win.

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

Blake will never win a grand slam.

I can't see him doing a Mauresmo and winning his first grand slam at this point in his career as there are too many better players.

Baghdatis and Gasquet have better shots at winning a Grand Slam in 2007/08 then Blake does.

The Agassi match last year - how did Blake not win that match? Real momentum coming into the match, playing well on the day, couldn't execute the win.

Sure he could win the US Open but it would take a weird set of events - like the Gaudio year. I'm not saying he's like Gaudio, I'm saying that year Roland Garros was strange, Nalbandian injured in the semis, Coria chokes in the final. If Blake gets to the final and finds his opponent is Berdych, Gasquet, Murray, etc and it's their first final too, then he's probably favourite to win.

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

If Blake could calm his nerves and not get down on himself, he could win a USO. I think he lost the second set so badly because he blew the opening tiebreak. Other than that set the match was very close. Beating the world^s best player is not easy for anyone.

Yes, Blake should stop losing to these strong players and start losing to some mugs.

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

Blake have very good game to trouble top players like federer. But blow his chance he have many chance last night and if he wins fourth set, federer is very rattled and chance to lost.

Blake needs to believe he can win he have the game.

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

when he gets down, man he gets down... but when he is up, he is capable of anything... last night shows that... he had what 1,2 chances to break federer to get back on serve in 4th... and it wasn't as if federer was givin it to him either he was earning points... so i mean i think he needs to build on this, and who knows i mean he can make a run to a final at least IMO

Re: About Blake @ US Open.

Korda, Johansson, Costa and Gaudio all won slam's in the past 10 years and are at around the level that Blake is.

Of course he can make a run at a final or win one if he has the kind of draw's that he's had in the past and actually capitalizes.

But Blake will never live up to the hype, tv coverage, wild cards, Davis Cup selections or main court matches he's gotten in his career.

i'm glad we're even able to talk about blake like this... i think if his career ended today he'd be happy, he's just thankful he's able to play tennis

I wont, I think he is more talented than Roddick because of his touch and he could have won more had he not gotten injured.
