Is Youzhny top 10 material?

After seeing him play, I was amazed! He is really good! I think he has a shot at challenging Roddick . . .

BUT do you think he can be in the the top 10?

Re: Is Youzhny top 10 material?

Well he was once ranked #15, and I believe his ranking will be near that if he wins the US Open (plus a place in Shanghai).

He has been touted as a Top-10 material since his historic 2002 Davis Cup win but his results have not been as great after that. Maybe he's re-discovering his 2002 form this week and who knows, possibly break the Top-10.

Not consistently no; but I sure did enjoy his match yesterday.

No, on a one of or two of matches, he can play top 10 to top 5, but consistently, he cant do it, at least not yet.

We don't know if he can play this well on a consistent basis, but hey maybe he'll follow Davydenko's path and mature into a consistent Top Tenner at an older age. Win or lose the Open, this result will give him tons of confidence going into his best part of the season (fall indoors with two Russian events) where he has relatively few points to defend.

How high will this USO SF put him? Is Shanghai possibly in reach?

I think the only way he'll make it to Shanghai is if he wins the US Open.

Misha can keep a very good level for longer than you think. The problem is .. he gets injured too often, and the recovery process is always very long for him and he inevitably slumps. But if he manages to stay healthy for a period of time, he IS a top 10 material.

3. Andreev
4. Youzhny
5. Safin
6. Kunitsyn
7. Korolev
8. Gabashvili
9. Ledovskikh

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Misha has 120 points right now and he will gain at least 75 (90-15 from last year) points after USO being in SF. So he has at least 195 points. He will lost a max. of 25 points from last year's result. So 170 points. He needs to win or at the finals of both Madrid and Paris to be safely in TMC. That's my estimation.

Yea that sounds about right, except that you don't have to worry about defending points for the race, so no subtracting. So he will gain at least 90 points from the USO, that would put him at the high teens so yea it'd be possible if he were to do really really well in the indoor season.

I think everyone recognizes that he has the shots to do it and that he has for some time now. Consistency seems to have been his biggest problem so I think he has to back up this run with runs like it week in and week out, then we'll see
