That's an incredible statistic. Thanks for looking it up. For someone with a game who can take you out of a match so quickly and tear you apart, he really does love the long struggles. I guess it's a good thing he is so strong in 5-setters; he seems to be able to regain concentration when it matters most... sometimes.

Yes it is. A lot of people think it's only because he isn't trying, or he doesn't care, or "he didn't bring his brain" etc., but it's not all that. Sometimes he doesn't care and sometimes he isn't trying and sometimes he is distracted. But many different times, he is trying, he is concentrating, and he is using his brain but the game is just not there. A big problem (and wouldn't we all like this problem) is that that HE knows what he is capable of and anything substandard just gets to him and the errors start to roll.

Our big boy always makes life too hard for himself - it's why he runs out of gas at the end of tournaments and only has two slams, is always getting injured...

It's all to do with his head.

Are you sure there was any looking up involved?

Fan of: Federer Safin Haas Nadal Santoro Agassi Tursunov's blog

"I couldn't even tell you who the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world is right now," Federer said. "It's probably me, still. It is, isn't it?" The Onion

Russophilic member of the MTF Perv Squad--objectifying Tarpischev, Kafelnikov, and Volkov like whoa.

that's why it's always crazy to watch him play

Marat: Last question: what do you think of me? Dinara: You are my god! When you play, I love
to see you. When you lose, I am even sadder than when it is me. When you are wounded, I suffer.
When you speak to me, I drink your words. When you come to see me playing, I am with the angels.

Can you ever write a post that you don't mention a bad word or simply say

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

Re: SAFIN likes to do it the hard way: Safin and straight sets wins at Slams

Marat just added to his straight set wins stats.

Here's also something that seems incredible to me: Marat has never won more than 3 matches in a row in a slam without dropping a set. In fact, he has won 3 in a row only once which was in the 2002 AO.

He has won back-to-back SS matches in the slams:

AO '02--won 3 matches in a row
AO '05--won 2 matches in a row

RG--has never won 2 straight matches without dropping a set. The only other time he won a straight set match was against Grosjean in '02.

Wimby '05--won 2 straight matches without dropping a set

USO '00--won 2 straight matches without dropping a set to win the title

The 2000 USO is the only slam where Safin won a match in straight sets past the QF stage. He has 2 QF ss wins, one SF, and one F won in straight sets.

Interesting stats. I don't see Marat defeating Tipsarervic in straight sets but I'd like him to prove me wrong.

Same here. If he plays like he did yesterday (30 Unforced Errors) and Tipsarevic plays well, he could be in trouble.I can see him getting past him, but I dont see him moving past Robredo.
