Without being "tard-ish" in your respones, can Rafa win the U.S Open?

Yes and no.

In the sense that he hasn't been that successful on the North American hard courts, it would be surprising. However, given his determination, it wouldn't be shocking. I mean, he is the number 2 player in the world, so I don't think it'd be a complete shock to see him win this major.

I've said all along that i had a feeling this would be Rafa's year at the USO. I would say at this point, considering his success at Wimby, nothing should really be surprising with Nadal anymore. The guy can play.

I would only be surprised if he stopped grunting and jumping up-and-down.

Re: Would you be suprised if Nadal actually WON the U.S Open?

At the end of Cincy, I said I'd eat my hat if he wins the USO His hardcourt form was terrible for the world number 2.

However, looking at his draw, realistically, only Roddick can take him out now, he's avoided all of the others who trouble him (Blake, Berdych etc both in Fed's quarter). So now, I wouldn't be so suprised if he wins it. Although I hope he doesnt :P

No surprise.

I really don't think he'll do it but he might get to the final and give Roger a run for his money

He can do it, but I don't see it currently because his first matches were not so impressive that I could say he already has the form to do it.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Not surprised at all. I still have him as second favourite for the title (Federer being the obvious favourite). Roddick or Hewitt in the semis could prove tough, but on the other hand he has a shot at beating Federer, which Roddick and Hewitt really doesn't.

If he defeats Roddick, he has all the chances on the final.

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

I won't be surprised, but I don't want it to happen as long as he's so one-dimensional

How is Nadal so one-dimensional? Just about everyone in tennis must be then.

With the way Fed is playing now: it won't happen.

Federer may be the strong favourite, but Nadal is clear 2nd favourite. The surprise would be anyone not called Federer or Nadal.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
