What an amazing day of tennis

I'd just like to say I have been glued to the TV ever since play began today - it's been epic tennis match following epic tennis match.

Andre taking his final bow in an emotional defeat

Marat and David fighting each other to a near-standstill until the whole match swings on a missed dropshot.

Gasquet weathering a very tricky Swiss by the name of Chiudinelli

Hewitt ruthless against Djokovic

Murray weathering hurricane Gonzo to win in 5

Berdych taming Tursunov in 5 tough sets

Roddick vanquishing Verdasco in another tough 5-setter

Nadal edging Moodie in three very tight sets

On the women's side, Serena looking awesome against Ivanovic and Mauresmo pulling out a very gritty win in 3 sets over Santangelo.

One amazing day of tennis

And the night is still to come

to them all - NOW it feels like the tournament is underway after all that rain.

Re: What an amazing day of tennis

It's something of an overdose following the complete absence of play yesterday, but there has certainly been much quality and drama today. I just hope that the weather doesn't take a turn for a worse again now that, as you say, the event has really begun.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.
