Very dissapointing result for Monfils, all the other youngsters are ahead of him.Congrats to Moodie.

Yes, he's clearly lagging behind the other.

He doesn't seem to improve, he's not involved 100%, he thinks more about the show that tactics. His year has been dissapointing.

Monfils is a brain dead idiot. He hasn't a clue of what to do out there. All that power and athletiscism to waste it trying to be a 6'4 counterpuncher.
Total waste of talent. His coaches should be fired.

I agree. I watched his match yesterday and he was playing as if he is a clay court grinder. In fact, he was also sliding as though he was playing on clay.

He actually has serious power and the build to exploit it but he is addicted to his foot speed and thinks that it will get him out of difficult situations instead of improving his power game.

Need ideas for a new signature...

I want to cheer for Monfils but he is so under-performing & not taking advantage of his athletic prowess. Plus that long, rotating swing is not gonna do him well on the tour. He needs to shorten that AND become waaayyyyy more aggressive.

You're right henree - the counterpunching needs to end with the quickness!!!

Re: Moodie defeats Gael Monfils 6-4 2-6 6-2 7-6(4)

Monfils said in all his interviews that he was completely not there physically since he has pains in his legs and both foots but that because it was the USO, etc...He played and that he won his match against Russell thanks to his head so i say: Go rest and cure yourself, then come back and progress...

Read infos before you make conclusions...

If he wasn't physically good, why was he playing? Losing to Moodie is ridiculous.

Monfils is the complete opposite of someone like Donald Young. His is incredible physically, but has little flair for tennis. I think he will probably crack the top ten at some point in his career, but will threaten at a slam or master series event.

Hes got all the potential and a bit of talent but hes resting on both and not trying to improve at all. My prediction that is unless his att changes he'll burn out soon.
