Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

Roger and Rafa fans just need to accept it's over, neither wins another slam.

Go watch DVDs of their greatness because they don't have it anymore.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

Yeah they will, both of them, you can quoted me on that in the future.

Nadal probably still has a good 2 Weeks peak for a RG run, and Roger with Novak out next year on Wimbledon will win his last GS Title.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

Both might have a chance at their favorite Slams, i.e. Rafa at RG and Roger at WC, but a few things need to happen before (for example very great form, favourable draws, a lot of luck etc.).

Both ex-champs converted to unrecognizable chokers due to decline. Still somehow hope that they win one before retiring.

At least Federer is still reaching SF's and F's.

Last time Nadal reached a SF stage of a slam was RG's 2014.

2015 was afwul for Rafa but 2016 he only played 2 Grand Slams due to injury, he certainly would have make at least the SF in RG against Novak.

It is not about decline but more that they feel tired mentally playing so many years. But they are still very good. I still think they will play one great match b/w them that no one will forget.

It isn't even certain that Nadal will make another slam SF. Any top 10 player is a huge task for him. And his decline will be linear IMO. He has no ability to reinvent his game like Federer.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

The ship has sailed for Roger unfortunately, if he was one year younger (aka had his 2015 form) he would have grabbed one in 2016, probably Wimbledon.

Federer - Del Potro

Roger Federer

Australian Open: '04 '06 '07 '10 '17
French Open: '09
Wimbledon: '03 '04 '05 '06 '07 '09 '12 '17
US Open: '04 '05 '06 '07 '08

Juan Martin del Potro

US Open: '09

This is why Nadal fans need to stop saying he can win another slam or he's back. I sometimes think do they even watch Nadal play he's a shadow of his former self and the fact is he can't even make it to Djokovic, Murray so how is ever going to win another slam.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

Federer definitely won't, Nadal has a small semblance of a chance at the French. But I'd say no.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

That's 2 absences, 2 QFs, 2 4Rs, 2 3Rs, 1 2R, and 1 1R. Rafa has not made it past the QF of a grand slam since winning the 2014 FO. Look at Rogie's last same 10: 2 absences, 3 Fs, 3 SFs, 1 QF, and 1 3R. I'll take Rogie's grand slam results from 2014 W until now over Rafa's.

Mugray's last 10: 1 TBD (2016 USO), 1 title, 3 Fs, 2 SFs, 2 QFs, and 1 4R.

Djokovic's last 10: 1 TBD (2016 USO), 6 titles, 1 F, 1 SF, and 1 3R.

Aside from Djokovic, Mugray is next best, but not by a lot, then Rogie, and last of all Rafa.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

Without that injury, I would have definitively said yes for Federer, at Us Open and Wimbledon, now we'll have to see.

And Nadal can still win a FO.

Re: Will Roger or Rafa ever win another slam?

I'll take Rogie's chances over Rafa's, He's made 2 Wimby Fs and 1 USO F in the past couple of years, so he had more chances than Rafa. When you make the SFs and Fs and the other guy makes the QFs at best, you have better chances. That being said, I think neither one will win another singles grand slam title. For now they're for Djokovic and Mugray to win until someone else steps it up and wins them consistently.

From 2003 W until 2016 W, 53 grand slams.... Rogie won 17, Rafa 14, Djokovic 12, and Mugray 3. That's 46 right there alone. That leaves only 7 other grand slams to be won by some else (2003 USO Roddick, 2004 FO Gaudio, 2005 AO Safin, 2009 USO Del Potro, 2014 AO Wawrinka, 2014 USO Cilic, and 2015 FO Wawrinka). 46/53 is 86.79% of the grand slams. This means 6 out of every 7 was won by The Big 4. As for the 2016 USO we will see!
