Re: Umpire Magdi Somat opens up on how the ATP got rid of him

why would he pm Mourier's wife on FB though?

What would he try to convey there?

p.s. except for players, tennis is just full of weird people all around. A majority of non playing tennis related people are just strange.

Nice artcle

Not surprised the ATP is largely "boys club"

The first incident with the female ATP employee and Sanchez does sound like a prank, though. But, there may have been other incidents with him before. It seems weird that she would burst into tears just based on that one seemingly harmless incident.

So frustrating to read...

Boys' club is always an abbreviation for fuckboys' club, this is what happens when you don't teach boys empathy towards girls.

I just saw this article. Good stuff. ATP confirming itself as a ridiculously corrupt organization, FIFA level stuff. How desperately the fat cats in this mutual admiration society protect each other. Disgusting.

that's just one side of teh story mate and knowing Chris, it's been stretched and hyperboled to the maximum.

I don't see a hint of info about the FB messaging of Mrs. Mourier and that already tells me a lot. We wouldn't even know about it, if it wasn't in between the lines of the ATP letter to MS.

Which, of course, by the best blogger/journalist practices means that much has been withhold and the rest has been overstretched to have a case at the end.

This is advocacy and not journalism, that's why i'm always very careful taking sides with very, very one sided info.

The fuck should I know whom he talks to in private, I'm not his caretaker. But yes, although there is no reason to doubt anything mentioned in the sexual harassment part of the story, Somat's recollection of everything that happened to him personally is fairly one-sided, but there was only so much I could do when it's made impossible to apply audi alteram partem to its fullest extent

No, i know, but to me your style is too militant, not necessarily in quest of the whole truth, but rather bashing on the threads of info you have.

Would you have hinted that there are two sides of a story, you might even have received a statement from the other side.

Same goes for your Sharapova story. You're pushing down readers' throat the statement "she used it as PED" several times and this is not productive.

The ones who already "know" she's a cheater and a bad person, and Russian, etc. they don't even need to read it, coz they "know".

The rest, who try to form an opinion would see it as a personal attack, coz it comes to anyone's mind that she uses Vitamin C as PED the same way..

You don't give a choice to the reader, by giving him info and hints of conclusions. You just state your opinion, like in a forum.

Otherwise it's well written, it's obviously hard worked for, nothing to say.

Do you have a plan on your next move? It seems that the story has hit a very tough barrier now, and outlets are not carrying this story anymore.

There is no next move, I'm afraid. As basically a low-key blogger I don't have the credentials to seduce main figures to open up and really solidify the story, while those in the mainstream media who have won't touch it.

A heartwarming story about sexual harassment, corruption and omertà within the ATP. Someone threatened to sue me if I published this, so we gonna see what's going on with that.
That's some "Spotlight" shit right there man, amazing work

Could be a business issue. If I were a BBC or CNN, would I side with an individual who complains about an organization and fight with the big guys in the organization that generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenues every year and gives me business/news on a regular basis that generates readers'/viewers' interest across the world? Or would I side with the organization?

Could be a credibility issue, because I think this is the first time someone who had worked at ATP has complained of sexual harassment. A few more people coming out with their stories/version of facts would definitely add to the credibility. A single story makes people to think "has this really happened at the ATP level?" Regardless, these allegations of sexual harassment will put ATP under scanner and to work towards improving the inner workings of the organization.

Umpire Magdi Somat's battle should be at the organizational level and not at the personal level. Up until August, 2016, apparently, he was fighting a good fight. By sending personal messages to Mourier's wife and calling people names on FB, he showed a bit of immaturity and loss of mental composure. But doing such things he would only lose favor.

We have to admire Chris for doing what he felt is right and trying to help out someone who he felt is right and who is fighting a lone battle, for the love of the game and for the love of the profession unlike most of us who gather here and engage ourselves in a useless and meaningless banter, most of the time.

9-3 9-4 7-2 Now, who's the GOAT?
