Karlovic shakey on pressure points, but Dimitrov was on a roll today, some great returns and pinpoint passing shots. The passion is there. Maybe all is not lost yet, I sure hope so.
First Masters QF in over a year for Dimitrov, come on!
Great draw for Dimi to get back in business in a masters. I only saw the last few games and he had a lot of trouble making it 5-5, Ivo was actually playing some great tennis answering first serves with winners but Dimi held his nerve, kept banging in good first serves and toughed it out.
Then there was a sad line judge that nearly gave Ivo the game at 5-5 but Hawkeye was there for Dimi on a ball Hellen Keller knew was good. Dimi also returned 3 amazing serves straight to Ivo's legs in that game. Broke and that's all she wrote.
Good for Dimi, he needs to string together some match wins and with them some matches played.
I'm not particularly a fan of Dimitrov but it was nice to see him win his third match in a row, wouldn't be at all surprised if this set the ball rolling for a revival. His tactics in the last two matches have been spot on.
Grigor was on fire today. He was virtually untouchable on serve until late in the 2nd set when he squandered 40-15 and 40-30 leads in two service games to go BP down but he kept his verve well and pulled through those games. His returning in the 11th game was insanely good and he fully deserved the break.
It's good to see him enjoying his tennis again and when he plays like that, he's a threat to anyone. Hopefully he's starting to turn things around here but it's difficult to tell with Grigor. It's clear tennis really needs him right now.
The most important thing to take from today's match is he has finally remembered how to serve again.
Terrible result for the sport. Dimitrov always fluking in Canada through choking opponents. Sugita should have won. Shapovalov should have taken a set yet here we are Diva flukes a MS1000 QF. Pathetic.
HE was very focused and sharp. Really worked hard for this win, Ivo was very tough at times saving BPs but Dimitrov would not let go hit some nice returns. Saved some of his own BPs with good serves and put pressure right back at Ivo.
The match against Nishikori should be fun. If Grigor can reproduce this form today, he certainly stands a chance of winning. He really needs to keep serving well though. If he goes back to serving like he did against Sugita, he's toast.
Grigor held serve without much trouble the whole match which was nice. On return, he was surprisingly good today. I believe that he has a chance against Kei, but I won't be surprised either if he loses 6:3 6:2.
The last 2 matches have been surprisingly solid for Grigor's standards and good tactical plans too. Perhaps some of it is down to Valverdu? Anyway, it's great to see an end to this hopeless freefall. Next match he is definitely an underdog as Kei is very uncomfortable for him, but if he manages (somehow) to scrape throgh him, that would do absolute wonders for his confidence...
Nice to see the usual creepy-crawlies coming out of the woodwork at the first sight of Grigor lifting his head up high and playing some good shit.
Interesting, never expected Dimitrov to take this in straights without a TB. Nishi-Dimi matchup is more fun than Karlovic, if Nishikori plays at his average MS level this year Dimitrov shouldn't stand a chance, but I have a feeling now that it won't be completely routine.
What? A fan comes to support his player and express his joy after a long period of draught and you call him a "troll", yet you and other lost souls only come here to gloat, hate and bait and this makes you what - a decent guy?
That logic is priceless. Keep up the good comedy mate
Well, here's hoping Nishikori does the job tomorrow and beats Dimitrov in straight sets. but I guess it would be fitting for the tournament this year if Dimitrov made it through to the SF.
Amazing how people can be so bitter at the fact that Dimitrov made a master QF when this year he had a losing streak of 6 matches and lost early in most tournaments
Solid win on paper. Lets see if he can put up a strong performance next round against Nishikori. Would be good for tennis if Dimitrov became a consistent top 15 player.
Good as for what? That he can hit some flashy winners but choke in almost all important matches in the big stage?
Do we need more space fillers like Berdych at the top? Hardly, we need fighters like Thiem who duke it out in win or lose style.
Not a fan of Dimitrov in particular. Even tho I like his hotshots. But nice to see him perform a bit. Beating an Ivo on a roll witha one hander is a good result for anyone.
Dimitrpv belongs in the top15. But imo hes not top much better than that atm at least
