Interesting, I didn't see anything wrong with that relationship...

Unless Cilic falsely thinks there is some kind of consistent genius hidden inside of him.

In the Wimbledon match against Federer, Ivanisevic couldn't watch at crucial moments, I remember him burying his face in his hands when the camera was on him. I imagine that either Ivanisevic finds it too mentally stressing to be Cilic's coach or Cilic is not satisfied with his way of supporting him in crunch time.

Can't draw many conclusions from that, it's equally possible that Goran wanted to move on, or it could've also been a financial issue or something else and so on. Will be interesting to see with whom each of them is going to partner up next. :)

Money was not an issue, Marin never cared about it and was always generous with it. When he won US Open and was asked what is he going to do with the prize, he said he will share it with his team and he did.

Judging by the twit I don't think this was Marin's choice, something tells me that Goran dumped Marin in order to be Borna's coach. If you watched Borna's match today you could have seen that he was out of it, like his mind was somewhere else. My bet is that his manager, who's in Umag now with Goran, is arranging something.

Surprising...didn't felt there were any reason to sack him (unless it does pertain about Goran being "unsupportive" of him during Wimbledon QF; I mean I get that is a big deal as Cilic had been in the QF twice before and hasn't broken through the SF but still). Not heard yet about Goran possibly coaching Coric next though, so if it is Goran's decision to help another promising Croat then I guess they maybe had talked about it before and just didn't reveal much info about it. Hope at least for Cilic it's for the best. Some here did say Goran has helped him enough that it may be is time for a new perspective.

I mean, does it really matter? Cilic's slam win was incredible and Ivanisevic was at his side, but it's practically impossible to repeat that. He can't really improve anything. We both know that Nishikori is the better player overall, but he probably won't be able to repeat a slam run similar to Cilic's.

You guys are clueless.

How can a coach work with a player for his entire career, especially one as eccentric and wanting to have fun as Goran?

I wish Dimitrov can get him at a last try of making his career relevant. He would be perfect to get his serve back on track. With his serve back to 2013-14 level, maybe his confidence comes back too.

Nah, most likely he will hire a friend he can party together like Haas or Tursunov after they retire at the end of the year.

Haas actually sounds like the perfect coach for Dimitrov.

Cilic is a great player but he needs to believe more in his game . Federer made him a great favour with this match at Wimbledon. All tennis experts were there to see who is better Cilic or Raonic in those two 5 setter matches. Federer said Cilic' match was epic. IMO Cilic will win big title soon. The last time he played against Federer in Toronto it was a great tough match and then he won USO in 2014.

It looks like Marin got tired of Goran's insults and insensitivity and has fired him. For quite some time now after Marin's bad losses Goran would comment in the newspapers that if he lost that way he would kill himself and so on. After Marin lost to Simon in 2014 AO Goran has commented that if that happened to him he would find the nearby train tracks and would lay on them.

After Federer loss, Goran came to locker room and got into big fight with Marin. Later in Croatian press Goran again mentioned that if he lost that match in that manor he would kill himself. The straw that broke Marin's back was after Croatia was 2-0 down to US, Goran said that CRO will never win the tie.

Maybe Goran is too honest and in some professions that's a good trait but as a coach his job should be to motivate a player thru positive enforcement, rather than thru negativity, especially if the player has low confidence.
