Who knows, with Wawrinka everything is a lottery, he may beat Djokovic or lose in R2. Its basically unpredictable also since his form goes up from nowhere, he usually doesnt win masters to show us that his form is good.
I think he's on the decline, really hasn't played that well at slam events and is his usual terrible self at the masters (1 QF showing as a top 4 seeds). I can't see him suddenly "turn up" at USO even if turning up out of nowhere is his natural proclivity. Even if his top level is really high, his base level is just too inconsistent.
I am just hoping for Nishikori to overtake him at last. Right now there is circa 900 points between them, Kei can only win points at the US, Wawrinka could lose points if out of form.
Kei is slipping Washington so I think need to wait till after Tokyo (Wawrinka defending that) to be sure but Shanghai, Paris and Basel will be points for grabs)
See how he goes in Canada first, not that that is any indication with Stan.
But unlikely he is going to beat his best result at the USO, even with a top 4 seeding now that Federer is gone.
While I agree a good draw will really help, he really wasn't that good last year too with back problems persistent since after Roland Garros. He seems fit, but his consistency is a bit out there. He exited 2nd Round in Montreal and QF in Cinci last year before getting to the SF in USO where he didn't drop a Set until the SF so form now isn't an indication. However it would be nice to see him take advantage of some withdrawals of top players because you rarely can have it (and he has already botched attempts of possibly having a good draw [see Rome this year] so he should at least try and reap one once in a while).
Cinci? I guess being in the QF's there in the past 2 years I guess it makes sense. What about this Toronto though? It's his first time being a Top 2 seed in a big event without a Big Four member on his half.
Although he has earned himself 2 Slams by suddenly peaking at the Majors regardless of his previous form, he is looking way too bad at the moment for me. I expect him to bomb out in the first week
The thread asked if he'd make the final, not win the event. Secondly, you do realize he's never been successful on grass? This is hard court we're talking about. And who knows how far he would've gone had he not had to face Del Potro, who was definitely playing way higher than 20% in that match.
@Supercell No offense, it's a bit petty to ask for revenge for someone's first Slam, especially if Djokovic himself has already won 12 Slams already, a dominant showing that doesn't need any "revenge" plot or something like that. :|
But let's be honest, Wawrinka had a very good draw until Nishikori.
