Marat Safin's ranking is now in the 80's.
Why is it that Tommy Haas has a protected ranking because of his injury
and surgery but not Safin because of his long-term injury?

I think that Safin used all his ranking protection availability. You could only do this so many times.

you need to be off the circuit for 6 continuous months.
Marat isn't eligible for an Injury rank.
Marat didnt do that, although like he says he could have but he played LA.

anyways he can and will get WC into TMS events anyway but he wont be needing them soon.

Indian Wells and Miami are both 96 draws so he'll get in there no prob.

marat did have a protected ranking but he started it too early and it got all used up. it only lasts for 9 tournaments or 6 months, whichever happens first

Andy Murray ~ Richard Gasquet ***David Nalbandian*** Rafael Nadal ~ Gilles Simon
