Both inexplicably reached the final of a Slam.
Both lost said finals meekly to erratic ballbashers.
Neither have serves that give them free points.
Both take the ball early and try to finish the point every second shot regardless of court position.
Neither have a BH slice and always get in trouble on the run there.
Both have endorsement deals well above their results.
Neither make a sound on court.
Neither will win a Slam, but will be talked about as QF and SF threats to top players throughout their careers.
I still think Nishikori is hampered by his first serve. He's got good groundies but not a grinder by any stretch and for that reason he needs a good first serve to bail him out of some tough games where he's down 15-30 or 30-30.
Also being an asian myself, I think he also maybe carries a complex of beating these tall westerners with more athletic genes. IDK if he's got over that mental hump. Today was tougher cause the crowd was totally for Gasquet.
Except that Kei isn't a douchebag and actually wins some matches and most importantly his game isn't ugly. Have you seen Douchard play? She has the ugliest game ever.
Kei is way way more talented, professional, likeable and will never go into a year long funk like eugenie did. He lost to the best possible version of Gasquet playing his worst possible tennis and still took a set. Hell be fine. Also he won't trip and fall like a moron in the locker room.
Kei's final was not inexplicable, he had to work his ass off , it's much harder to reach a GS final for somebody out of the so called top 4, ATP biggest stars aren't as muggy and brainless like WTA ones are.
Also Bouchard's technique is flat out ugly and not particularly keen on the body.
The fall of the overhyped canadian mug was a divine justice. After all those GS performances with draws falling apart all she has now to show for it it's winning a lame small title in Germany.
She's basically a bad copy of AnnaK who was actually a pretty good player and way more atracttive.

well the thing is kei isnt a self absorbed douchebag. also, he is able to win matches and go deep in big events even if draws dont fall apart for him. bouchard will only ever make noise in slams and big events where the draw falls apart in front of her. kei is likeable while bouchard is not. also kei's game , while im not a fan can be fun to watch. bouchard's game is ugly, basic, painful and very one dimensional.
a crappy match from nishikori and everybody is criticising him...it s not like he whooped gasquet the last time they played ...he had a bad day at the office today and that s it ,except this he had an awesome season and gasquet is a very good player at his peak and with crowd behind him.
What a dumb comparison to be honest. Kei's work ethic and professionalism far exceed anyone else not in the big 4 and far far far exceed that of "silver spoon" Bouchard whose game is so basic and uncreactive. Also skill/talent level not comparable at all. I'd much prefer a Naomi Osaka, Bencic or Stephens carrying the WTA torch, speaking as a Canadian. Far more attractive humans as well.

That isn't true at all. What makes his work ethic and professionalism any better than the likes of Ferrer, Berdych (can't stand both), RBA, Raonic, Thiem, Goffin etc?
Results wise, a bit silly, considering Kei's run to the USO final in 2014 was not a product of the draw falling apart around him; he had to beat actual good players (3 top 5 seeds, including Djokovic). Meanwhile, Bouchard while making 2 SFs and a F that year, did not need to face big names early on, avoiding Serena Williams twice (AO, Wimbledon), or Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon and was handily dismissed by superior players. I'll admit Kei can struggle in big matches and pressure situations. Kei played a real bad match but that shouldn't be an indicator of what he can do when playing well. Kei is also a lot more technically sound and can defend and return much better.
There are similarities, but in the grand scheme of things, I'd have to say no. Granted, I don't keep up that much with the WTA, but Kei's still in the top 10. Bouchard almost turned into Melanie Oudin.
Sorry if someone finds this comparison offending but I am serious with this one!
