Re: Commentary at its best

This Kiwi commentator on the Gaudio and Stepanek match. He comes and out says "the Stepanek forehand is his big weapon".

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

First of all, their wind match was in 2004, in the quarters, which Fed barely won in 5 sets.

Either way, you're trying to compare a peak Federer with a 34-35 year old Agassi? You're making his point for him.

Federer's backhand is great at passing shots, but as Clydey said, its a borderline liability in baseline exchanges.

Peak Federer wasn't 2004, it was 2005/06 and answer me 2 questions.

a) Have you ever seen Federer play LIVE?
b) Did you watch that match in 2004?

Only 2 "yes" replies and I will take your opinion seriously.

Not that I give a shit about whether you take my opinion seriously, but yes, I have seen Federer live, and I've seen the Agassi wind match from start to finish. It actually started the night prior, and was cut short late in the first set due to rain before they returned the next day.

What cracks me us in when Tennis Channel always shows a close up of the sensor when there's a net cord. Like we're supposed to see it go off..

Re: Commentary at its best

This may be WTA, but it sure was funny: Pam Shriver compared the post-Slam slump of Ivanovic to the post-Slam "slump" of Sharapova. Just to clarify, Maria, after her maiden voyage at Wimbledon '04, went 3R-SF-QF-SF-SF at the Slams in the following next year and actually reached #1 in the world in '05 without a Slam on her ranking points. Meanwhile, Ivanovic has gone 3R-2R-3R since her RG win last year and has plummeted from #1 to #8, even with the RG ranking points still. She's in danger of dropping out of the top ten after this event. Oh, Pam.

What's funnier is that he thinks Stepanek has a "big weapon" at all.

Mark Woodforde calling Kristof Vliegen a Norwegian.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Re: Commentary at its best

On the TTC livestream the commentator was apparently talking to someone before the match started. "Davydenko's birthday is tomorrow, no wait.... That's June 2nd, don't have to worry about that, he'll be gone before then."

Re: Commentary at its best

BBC commentary, something along the lines of:

"Nadal is the drummer and Federer is the piano player" when comparing their styles.

Can anyone remember the real quote? I'm useless

"If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy, I could have won."

Oh so he is indeed from New Zealand. I was wondering if I'd got his accent right the whole match through. That and seeing Gaudio and his gorgeous bh again on TV were the highlights of the match.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).
