Re: Commentary at its best

Am I the only one who doesn't think Robbie Koenig sounds Australian? (Or that the South-African accent is that similar to the Aussie accent)

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Re: Commentary at its best

burrow, Federer and his fans look worse as match commentators compared to Gimelstob, if that's imagineable/possible.

I think they're completely different...stereotypical Aussie accent is only characteristic of a small % in Australia anyway, usually country types.

Koenig & Goodall are probably my favourite commentators...

Goodall during the Safin-Tsonga match.

"The players have to be sick of the music at the change of ends. I know we (commentators) are, it's the same stuff. If I am quiet for 5 minutes, I am going down there to sort it out".

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Commentary at its best

No Robbie's accent is definately South African and nothing like an Aussie. Sadly at the mo I am listening to the commentator that betfair provides and although it isn't THAT bad isn't great either. Jason cracks me up yeah that music has to be distracting but most of the time the players are too focused on the match.

Goodall on Boredo playing 5m behind the baseline on return.

"Robredo needs to be more aggressive, he is playing into Fish's fins".

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Must admit, Fish's name offers plenty of material for puns. There must be a long list of them somewhere.

Re: Commentary at its best

The Montañes and Melzer match had some good repartee between Koening and Goodall.

Goodall mentions Montañes's height and then compares it with Koening.

K: I came into the net more often than him.
G: Given Montañes's success and yours, it seems like he chose the right way.

Goodall, once we get Koening in those Cuban heels, he can make it to 5 foot 7.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Nadal-Melzer Madrid 2009.

Jason Goodall:

"I am not sure whether that ball-girl fainted because of the heat or because of Nadal playing."

Re: Commentary at its best

Leif Shiras said that Federer's backhand is in the all time top 5. Surely this counts as comedic commentary?

re Haas gesticulating & cussing & talking to himself, Goodall (in a sinister stage whisper): "It's the voices, Tommy!"

Not really, just shows your lack of tennis knowledge. Federer has a superb backhand.
