Re: Commentary at its best

If John Newcombe is allowed to commentate Lleyton Hewitt matches then I should be allowed to commentate Tommy Haas matches, its only fair.

Tapas would make more sense

I can just see Rafa there over the counter, pickling mushrooms

Re: Commentary at its best

I was watching a DVD last from the Viña del Mar 2006 final between Acasuso and Massu.

It was Barry McKay and some other cat.

"Massu has an excellent slice backhand", then there was "Acasuso is a great competitor". I didn't know Acasuso and Ancic sounded the same.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Did you know there is a new Court 2 in construction that is not ready for play yet?

Re: Commentary at its best

Another one from Newc, which proves that he just loves the sound of his own voice, being that a lot of the things he says have no real consequence or point:

And that's the first set to Safin, and everyone's happy about that. Well, except Seppi, Seppi's camp and Seppi fans

Re: Commentary at its best

Bud Collins just said, it would be great for the game, country, fans, and Wimbledon if Murray knocked off Nadal. (paraphrasing) Nothing against Murray, but how would that be better for tennis than the clash most are waiting for between Fed & Nadal..

I'd buy better for the country and Murray fans, but better for tennis ?? OK, so it was Bud Collins, nuff said...

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

Re: Commentary at its best

According to Fred Stolle, we have been "looking forward to the Federer-Ancic match because Ancic is a tall fellow."

Freddie has a fetish for tall guys it seems...

Gah.

How many gazillion times do the Beeb have to remind us that Ancic was the last man to beat Federer on grass?

Carillo, McEnroe, and Robinson were great for the Federer match today. Absolutely great. You Carillo haters are insane.

Federer / Youzhny / Ancic / Raonic / Dancevic

Re: Commentary at its best

The Finnish commentators pretty much all suck but the one commenting on late Wimbledon matches just threw a nice one:
After Nadal hits a forehand dropshot: "That dropshot is a new shot in Rafa's repertoire, and he's been practicing it specifically for grass courts"
...
Umm he grew on effing clay courts!

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Somewhere out there, there is a homeless person who once took betting advice from GSMnadal
