Re: Commentary at its finest

Did anyone else hear Wilander during the second set of Djokovic vs. Berdych say that the balls get less kick off the second serve fresh from the can?

I couldn't believe it, but why should I be surprised.

i wouldn't go into physics here, but i've always prefered serving a second set with a fluffier ball.

Maybe it stays 1ms longer on the strings to get some additional rotation, compared to the fresh ball jumping off it right away.

Unconsciously i always take the fluffier one for second serves, maybe it's just subconsciously not wanting to overcook it, dunno.

Too sad to be funny. Wilander says the sort of things that a 6 year old would take seriously, but that is about it.

During Tsonga-Gasquet match he had a couple of really good ones there.
He was talking about how Tsonga's first serve was lacking bite or something to that degree, bang, Tsonga serves an ace at 225 kmh (his fastest of the day).
Even funnier was when he claimed Tsonga hadn't had a 2nd serve faster than 135kmh, bang, 2 seconds later Tsonga's 2nd serve was measured 150kmh. I won't even mention that his average was 147 kmh, Mats has never been bothered by facts before. Just perfect examples of how stupid and baseless the commentary from him is.

He manages to ruin great matches just by trying to look really smart and coming up with some insane opinions, but in reality, no one who can wipe their own butt will consider him to be better than a complete and utter buffoon. The worst is when he does commentary with Bradnam, then it gets really bad. You know they will come up some gems and make the match as unenjoyable to watch as possible.

Re: Commentary at its finest

Talking of Wilander, did anybody else notice on the Eurosport commentary for Murray - Federer that Wilander was breathing quite heavy? Combined with squeaky chairs, what sounded like sweet wrappers being crumpled and other strange ambient sounds it actually sounded like the sound design on a David Lynch film at times.

Trollander once again breathing into the mic like a thirsty camel.

Loved the reference to blue clay though. Dude's still got the skills.

McEnroe rather clearly does not actually watch tennis, but seems to have some basic clue of what is going on while he's doing commentary that Wilander lacks

Maybe just came back from Anabel Croft's room.

They have interesting switches on Eurosport, one set Wilander, next set McMillan and so on. Sets 1,3,5 go to Wilander unfortunately.

I'm enjoying McMillan at the moment, when Trollander comes back I'll go and cook some lunch.
