Re: Commentary at its best

On the radio, they were talking about Tommy Robredo, and they called him 'Tommy Ro-breed-o' and on the TV today, they had James Blake (USA)
VS Fernando Gonzalez (ESP). Not commentators, but I can't be bothered finding the other threads.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO

Juan Monaco, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Gonzalez, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Juan Ignatio Chela, Fernando Verdasco, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Lucas Arnold Ker, Nicolas Lapentti

Josh Eagle on Davydenko.

"He better not give out too many sweatbands because without sponsors they can be hard to come by”.

Not bad for a 14 year old Federer.

Wilander got a bit excited with Murray today. The best was

'Murray has the best backhand in the game, and that's not an overstatement'

On the BBC today:

With Murray leading 3-2 in the fourth set - I really feel that Murray can carry this through and win now.

With Nadal servign for the fourth - I never really felt that this match was out of Nadals control.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

Re: Commentary at its best

Wilander was ridiculously excitable today. I think he was drunk. Both of these gems came after the first set:

"We thought Federer and Nadal were going to dominate tennis for years to come, but then Andy Murray came along!"

"That was the best set anyone has played in these championships so far and I'm including all of Roger Federer's sets when I say that!"

And on BBC, Andrew Castle was amazed that Nadal was signing autographs with his right hand. I mean it's not exactly a secret is it?

Apparently that guy didn't get the memo.

RAFAEL NADAL
"There are some people who say he can only play on clay, and they don't have any idea of tennis."--Roger Federer

Guillermo Cañas | Marat Safin | Carlos Moya | Fernando Verdasco

David Ferrer | Marcos Baghdatis | Juan Monaco | Fernando Gonzalez

Not really a commentary, but when Andy was serving at 0-5 today, his first serve was called out and a lady in the audience shouted, loud and clear: "Are you sure?! "

I'm allergic to morons.

On Star Sports:

Robredo is looking for his 1st GS semifinal. Only Federer stands in his way.

Re: Commentary at its best

Also on AO radio, during Davydenko v. Haas match,

"So, I was trying to decide if Davydenko was the most unknown #3 seed in AO history. So, I looked up all the year end #3s since 1976 and I could only come up with three names more anonymous than Davydenko... (ed. note: drum roll)

"First, Juan Carlas (instead of los) Ferrero."
(awkward silence, then they decide Juanqui is better known than Davydenko.)

"Ok, how about Alex Corretja?" (commentators discuss and say that he was just a clay courter- so maybe)

"Finally, Yevgeny Kafelnikov." (other box commentators point out that Kafelnikov actually won the AO.)

Priceless.
