Re: Commentary at its finest

It is such a relief to know that other people catch the Aussie commentators' mistakes. I get so frustrated at their ignorance. It's not like they just make the occasional error, it is almost every set. And when they are not making errors they say stuff that is so obvious or they make terrible predictions.

Thankfully Mark Woodforde is pretty good. Fred Stolle and John Newcombe make me want to pull my hair out sometimes. I also hate it how they talk about Lleyton Hewitt as if he is a tennis god.

Thank you Jim Courier for joining the Australian Open commentating team. You are funny, witty, and most importantly, knowledgable. None of which can be said about Stolle and Newcombe.

Re: Commentary at its finest

Anyone watching tennis channel stream of Stepanek Mayer?

I never know who's who with commentators but the following exchange is pretty fantastic:

1: Who has the best serve out there?

2: Well, I think you have to say maybe Nadal has the most effective serve. Del Potro maybe the biggest serve.

How can anyone possibly watch tennis and think that?

Well, the TTC analysts are all former pros, including Connors. I really hope it wasn't Connors who said that.

Has anybody heard from Tracy Austin lately?

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

It was a woman's voice so I hope it wasn't Connors as well.

I thought Jankovic played more like Nadal. Only getting balls back, not taking initiative and waiting on the UE from the opponent..

I hear you. Unfortunately for Fox Sports they share coverage of Wimbledon with channel 9. Channel 9 has the official rights to Wimbledon and they won't allow Fox to show any Centre Court matches live throughout the tournament or any live matches after R16 except for doubles. So the viewer is forced to wait until 9 goes to air 2 or so hours AFTER the matches have started and they have the nerve to say they are showing a live telecast. :retard: My ass. They treat their viewers with contempt.

As for Fox Sports coverage of the US Open, they seem to have forgotten that because Lleyton and Clijsters broke up like a billion years ago, she is no longer an honorary Aussie. They've shown every bloody match she's played for christ's sake!

Stolle is annoying. In every match he commentated from the Aus Open through to Wimbledon, he felt the need to mention that Mirka was 'expecting a child later this year' at least 10 times. He also likes to tell the viewers that her name is Miraslava Vavrinec, or 'Mirka'. It's like, shut up and talk about tennis, or retire already!

As for Newcombe, when he covers a Hewitt match or the match of any Aussie for that matter, he's a cheerleader for that player. To him, all Aussies are the number 1 seeds, odds on favourites to win. Even if it's Tomic or another player ranked outside the top 200 - he commentates like they are expected to win.

OMG you made me laugh so much at Stolle saying Mirka's full name all the time...he loves his little player box tidbits. He must read New Idea and Who to get the goss so he can tell us all the details. He'll be discussing Bec Hewitt's post baby body in todays match. What insight.

Where is the love?

Oh, you can believe it. In fact, if Fred does cover this match, I will count the number of times he mentions Mirka and the babies or Bec and the babies and start keeping stats.
