Re: Commentary at its best

Against Gulbis the british commentators celebrated Murray for "single handedly bringing the one handed backhand slice back into mens tennis."

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Q. Was that Federer match, do you think, a major breakthrough for you, even though you lost?

TOMMY HAAS: No. When you lose, there's no breakthrough.

Andrew Castle during the Roddick - Chardy match, the camera panned towards a shot of the American and Russians flags side by side, and Castle proclaims it as the flags of both Roddick and Chardy, knowing fine well Chardy is French.

I have believed for a long time that some similar names are pronounced with an "s", such as:
troicky = troisky
wosniacky = wosniasky
vaclav=vaslav
maybe I have been wrong all this time. I would like to know some first-hand opinion.

Re: Commentary at its best

Henman yesterday on BBC1: "I was very nervous playing on centre court, the big arena, SF's etc.."
Johnny Mac: "Yes, me too, such a big occasion, but we got through it. What about you Andrew? (Castle) What were your results Like?" (titter, snigger)
Andrew Castle: Hmmm uhhhh!
Mr Smug made speechless, love it!

I heard Jankovic pronounce Troicki as Troisky on a quiz thing at roland garros last year, so I will take her word for it seeing as she is the same nationality.

Wozniacki = Voz-ni-at-ski (although I often hear her referred to as Woz-ni-ak-y)

Troicki = Tro-it-ski (although he is often referred to as Troy-key )

Wish I'd heard it. Woodforde is an absolute clown. Only part of his commentary I enjoy is the he comes up with for the sake of filling a void.

Re: Commentary at its best

Woodforde and Newcombe again:

"I dont think there's any rule about barracking for the person you want to win." :retard:

"It's like player z was out there for 2 sets, and player a has now stepped up."

"maybe roachie gave him a bashing when they stepped off, a verbal bashing"
