Murray going for the most sets lost in a Slam record?

I was looking for some info and stumbled upon an interesting thread and record that hasn't been broken as far as I remember:
@Litotes
I know it's not what you asked for (which has been answered already), just thought I'd mention I believe Marat Safin has the record for most sets lost in a slam, from AO 2004. He won three four-setters and three five-setters before losing the final. A total loss of 12 sets!
Also found out on tennis warehouse that Lapentti lost 12 sets at the '99 AO. Checked it out and it's true. He eventually lost to Enquist in the semifinal.

It's probably too soon to start talking about this. However, Murray dropped 4/4 possible sets.

In the next round he's playing Karlovic who's serving great. At least one tiebreak is likely.

R4 is Isner/Gabashvili. I think Isner can also take a set, but Gaba has the potential to really trouble Murray when he's on fire.

QF. Nishikori/Kyrgios. Nishikori can take anyone to 5 sets here, imo. Kyrgios would also be a threat.

SF Only Wawrinka can push him to 5 in the semis, me thinks.

F Djokovic/Nadal - Obviously, he wouldn't be a favorite here.

For the record, he'll probably need to do two things. Keep playing pretty shitty tennis and reach the F in the same time. Losing the F would allow him to lose the maximum 15 sets in a Slam.

Possible?

And also, he still has the theoretical possibility of winning a Slam playing all 5 setters which would be one of the hardest and most amazing achievements. But that one is so unlikely at the moment that I didn't want to mention it in the opneing thread.

Don't know if that even has a name? Iron Slam? Since he's playing in Iron mode.

Lapentti won four 5-setters before his 1999 AO semi-final match. What a fucking beast.

As for Andy, him managing to play all 5-setters all the way to the final would be hilarious. I ever so slightly want it to happen though I'd rather he straight-setted from now on. It's unlikely to occur anyway.

What was Lapentti's run called back in 99 ? Enqvist draw generator ?

Murray will have to pace himself and play just the right level of shit to beat this record.

If he plays shit against a good player he might lose too early.

Conversely if he doesn't play shit enough then he might win a match in 3 or 4 sets which will really hurt his chances.

He will also need the good fortune that no one in his path retires or withdraws.

At least if he reaches the final, the game plan is easy: play as shit as possible and drop 3 sets.

All the best to Murray and his arduous task at Roland Garros.

Murray is gotta be hoping he only drops 1 max vs the BOTs and then Sorry he banged your GF (matchup) in the QF if he is to have any chance.
