The between the Leg's Whip shot thingy ...

I have alway's found it impressive when a player can run down a shot and hit it back over the net, between their leg's while they still have their back to the net.

-

I find it even less impressive that it never seem's to win a point. I wish these player's would quit trying to look cool and just defensively lob it back.

(Thank's for listening.)

Re: The between the Leg's Whip shot thingy ...

i did it twice and i won the point on both occassions.

it has a psychological impact to your opponent ecause they think, "uh-oh, i'd better not let him getaway with this, better not mess it up"

and then they still do because they get distracted. if you hit it clean enough and avoid making it float, or short, it's as good as a decent forehand...

Re: The between the Leg's Whip shot thingy ...

I play hack level (4.5) and have had it done one time too me. I won the point.

I've seen it done 'countless' times on the tour; and countless times have seen the the point lost.

In contrast; I have done and seen the defensive lob done and the momentum on the point turned around more times than I can count.

-

psychological ? Eh. The overhead stresses me out more than this 'lucky shot'.

I can't believe the men don't consider the consequences if they mishit it even slightly... I think Andy Roddick did that last year at Queens?

I thought it was you that started it.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

They called him "Willie" Renshaw for a reason.

In 1883 in the Wimbledon finals, he shocked his brother Ernest by returning a deep ball through his legs. The men gasped, the ladies tittered and some of them actually fainted into their bowls of strawberries. Poor Ernest, crestfallen at having been upstaged by his brother in yet another final, seriously considered entering the croquet competition instead. *

Santoro won the point against Federer at USO 05 with a between-the-legs shot.

It won it for Ferrero against Agassi USO 2003, Roddick V. Chela USO 02', Marty Fish did one against somebody at Wimbly where he hit it and lobbed off it and won the point. Just ask Jonnick Noah how effective it is!

But I do remember there was a male player who did debut that shot
and that might have been pre-1980.

After that a trend began.

Re: The between the Leg's Whip shot thingy ...

this shot is very common nowadays, specially on argentinean players.

Gaudio does it against drop shots but running forward, not backwards. He made lots of winners with it, 'cos it is an unexpected shot. It's called "gran gato".
