This is the last week ever Federer will be ranked in the top 2

600 points dropping off from Rome with Murray having a cakewalk draw, Wimbledon points about to come off soon also.

He's been #3 since November last year but snatched a week at #2 here with Murray's Madrid win points coming off here.

Fed's physical decline means getting back to #2 will be a huge challenge and I don't think he will be back after this week.

Looking at Slasher's live 52 rankings projections, he'll be behind in the race for #2 behind Murray substantially except for one week in August when Murray's Toronto wins comes off. However, he's only 500 points ahead and i think Murray will easily make up the gap at Rome/RG.

That's pretty cool that he got back to number 2 like 2 months shy of his 35th.

I know, huh? Almost as strong as when Ljubicic was #3 in 2006, Blake was #4, Robredo was #5, and so forth.

Or when Federer was beating 35 yo Agassi over 5 sets at USO and in the finals!

Re: This is the last week ever Federer will be ranked in the top 2

Overly bold since he could easily end up #2 again if Murray has a poor RG showing. And then later he'll have another good chance to be #2 when Murray's Montreal points fall off and Federer's Cincinnati points remain (a bit like this week with Madrid followed by Rome). I agree he hasn't exactly made a convincing case for being YE #2 yet, but even if nothing extraordinary happens he could easily swap the #2 ranking with Murray a couple of times until the USO. After USO he could have lost enough points to be significantly behind (depending on how he does), but even if your prediction is right in essence, this is the wrong time to call it imo.

Guy has most weeks at No.1, why would he even care about No.2?

Well, their favorite hasn't won a USO since 2008, has one AO in 9.5 years, and got exposed at Wimbledon for nearly a decade. So they are frustrated it seems.

They don't expect anything of him it seems, even though Federer keeps trying and playing great tennis.

Shame that his own fans disrespect him like that and call him weak.

we do not call him weak. It's just that we've seen GOAT level.
he's going strong for a 35 year-old. But he is as good as before.

Re: This is the last week ever Federer will be ranked in the top 2

That's by far not sure. It is quite likely he will be back to number 3 next week. But at RG, Murray has to defend SF, Federer only QF. In the week following RG, he will likely add some points at Stuttgart, while Murray won't play. And then they will both have to defend a title, at Halle, and Queens, respectively.

if he didn't have those injuries he'd already be a firm no. 2.

Re: This is the last week ever Federer will be ranked in the top 2

If Roger gets & stays healthy and plays his normal schedule, here is a a nice prediction for him:

Djokovic is ahead by a gazillion points, but Roger Federer can be number 1 in the world again by next year. That's the beauty of the 52 week ranking system.

He has played only 3 tournaments this year, a total of 13 matches, and only 3 matches since the AO, has almost completed his 35th year, and yet has risen to #2 in the world in the strongest era in history according to some. Incredible, no?

What's going to happen once he is healthy and starts winning left and right this year while the others are tired from the early-mid season efforts? What will happen next year when he has almost no points to defend between the Australian Open and Rome or Roland Garros?

According to some seers, prognosticators, and astrologers, Federer is nearly ready to peak.

He is coming back. We won't know the day, or hour, but he will. Be ready.

Shockingly,
masterclass
