fed-nadal: does it remind you of graf-seles?

graf used to dominate on tour just like federer did, but then seles came along with a different style of play who also grunted on every shot

graf became lost on what to do against her and the only place she felt safe against seles was on grass...

i hope there's no deranged fan out there that suddenly stabs rafa in the back...

Re: fed-nadal: does it remind you of graf-seles?

there are similarities (both play left as well) but Seles was dominate against all her competition and it really can't be overlooked that Nadal's best result outside of the French is a 4th round at the Aus Open and aside from Dubai he has lost rather meekly to Clement, Blake and Moya.

I'm sure he'll improve on that quickly and go deep more regular but he still does have to at least go deep in a major outside of RG to start to say Federer won't be able to stay ahead of him.

Not at all making excuses for Federer or down playing Nadal's talent but the H2H is massively scewed by their 5 encounters on clay.

And yes i do know they are 1-1 on hard and Nadal could have won their only other encounter. His game is perfectly suited to challenging Federer, i'm just not sure yet whether it's suited to taking down the whole tour for the next 10 years given how much effort is required and his well established tendency to get injured.

who knows. it's all good for tennis though.

It's 2-1 to Nadal, actually. (Miami 04, Dubai 06 - Miami 05)

There are certainly some similarities. But perhaps the most interesting thing about the Fed-Nadal situation is that it doesn't particularly remind me of something in the past. It's quite unusual and I can't wait to see how it evolves.

No..

Rafa is not there, yet

Re: fed-nadal: does it remind you of graf-seles?

yes

Graf and Roger = calm on court
Seles and Rafa = grunt and great fighting spirit
Graf and Roger : 4-5 years older than Seles and Nadal

you are not alone, i have really came to the thought about the back stabbling

but i have to say, Seles is much better than Nadal at the moment, she almost won most of the titles before stabbilng (except wimby), oh Seles, i miss her so much

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.

I doubt Rafa will get stabbed in the back. The security is too high now for something like that to happen.

Rafa will have to wait a few years to have a Graf-Seles type rivalry. I think it's only a matter of time before he adapts his game to different surfaces.

Know what? I was thinking about it just a few nights ago.

Yes, there are similarities.

Seles was just more dominant during her prime.

Good post mate .
Well the Graf vs Seles & Fed vs Rafa~ rivalries are probably as similiar as they can be, considering we`re comparing apples & oranges ie.Men & Women aren`t exactly the same species on a tennis court .Oops I`ll be accused of sexism pretty soon.

*Also the division among fans is intriguing, so many people think you have to be either a Fed fan or a Rafa fan, as if they were mutually exclusive . Why can`t we be fans of both of them & appreciate that a duopoly is better than a monopoly~ so they need each other .The Seles stabbing was such a tragedy because it changed the course of women`s tennis, we`ll never know what Monica could have achieved if it hadn`t happened, so Graf`s record number of Slams unfortunately has an asterix next to it*.

Let`s hope Fed & Rafa keep doing what there doing & nothing tarnishes their rivalry in the way the Graf v Seles rivalry was ..

Australian Open will suit Nadal but I think the US Open may be too fast for him.

Of course:

Federer-Graf :

Single Backhanded, Dominant players (Roger won 3 Slam except RG, Graf won all 4 Major)

Nadal-Seles :

Double Backhanded, Lefty, Heavy Top Spin and won their 1st Slam in RG.

1991, 1992

Australian Open, Roland Garros, US Open -> Seles
Graf only kept Wimbledon

Rafa will challenge Roger for Australian Open and US Open

Personally, Rafa may win Australian Open but US Open!

Re: fed-nadal: does it remind you of graf-seles?

Actually that is an interesting comparison. Federer and Graf were on cruise control until Rafa and Seles came along. I think overall Graf has a leading H2H against Seles, so let's hope Federer can turn it around as well.

Chinese version : Camparsion between Fed-Graf and Rafa-Seles
