Should umpires be made to learn each player’s language obscene words?

Hey there

Often we see players warned for swearing, I think its rather silly alot of the time. I mean I can understand it happening when a player swears at the umpire or officials, but just an swear word in anger of a missed shot should go unpunished I think for the first time.

Anyway, players who are from poland, serbia etc where the language is unknown by the majority of officials are at an unfair advantage. Players from spain, england, france etc are at a big disadvantage (they are constantly being warned for swearing, whilst the players who speak in a fairly unknown language can swear like mad all through the match).

So should umpires have to learn the swear words in all the languages spoken on the tour ?

I think most of umpires know these words in many languages.

How far do you think their awareness of the languages go? Are there many that they dont know of?

Not an essential part of the sport, I think. Umpires are having enough problems giving the right calls as it is.

No. French, Spanish, English etc. players have to learn to swear in another language.

Yes. I'm almost positive that players are out there dropping the F-Bomb in other languages. The umpires need to get on that.

No, let 'em curse. If no one really understands it, who cares?

Re: Should umpires be made to learn each player’s language obscene words?

I think they should but even if they do, some swear words sound very similar to normal words it will be confusing if its not his first language. I think umpires deserve more respect that theyre given. A player can object to a call but the way some players are sarcastic about the next out call is just rude. Most of the time theyre right anyway.

They should concentrate on making sure that the correct line calls are given and be more vigilant about double-bounces; this is more essential to the game.

I think it's quite obvious when a player is swearing in another language.

Re: Should umpires be made to learn each player’s language obscene words?

Yes robrulz but i dont think the umpire can do anything about it if he doesnt understand the language. It will just stir up more trouble if it turns out that the player said something like , Those stupid hard courts dont leave marks in spanish!
