Federer not in top shape?

I was watching yesterday's match and once RF went to the bench and lifted his shirt and I could swear he had somewhat of a hanging gut. I was surprised because in his shirt he seems fairly athletic but once he lifted it up I would hardly guess he is an athlete. That along with his freakishly thin arms made for quiet a sight to see .

Re: Federer not in top shape?

That's what is so crazy about Federer. He doesn't look like an athlete but he is. He has very broad shoulders and his training is grueling. There was a video a while back and he trained like a fighter!

Re: Federer not in top shape?

Yeah, he has a puny little body. But that doesn't really mean much, really. There are some really huge guys who are actually great athletes.

Re: Federer not in top shape?

If he can play a 5 hour final against Nadal in Rome, seemingly without too much trouble, then I think we can safely assume that he is in fine shape.

Re: Federer not in top shape?

There was some post on abdominal muscles that I saw on the internet, and it talked about how it's good not to have rock-hard abs when you're a tennis player. Rock-hard muscles are not lissome.

Re: Federer not in top shape?

i can think of many top players of have or have had bodies that are not exactly "athletic", e.g. gustavo kuerten - so thin!

Re: Federer not in top shape?

Besides, there are a lot of players that don't have perfect bodies. I am sure that if he wanted to he would be completely fit. he actually has a great body.
