He won three Wimbledons in a row..

He won 7 majors. He won every other major except for one.. And he threw all he had at that one, and got as close as he has never been.. But still fell short.. The effort took so much out of him, physically and mentally, that at his favourite Slam, the Slam everyone agreed he owned, he was mentally and physically spent, and lost in QF to a huge surprise of everyone..

Pete Sampras. 10 years ago.

That was the year the rain wreaked havoc, and he came on and off court I think 3 times, and could not build a rhythm.

I looked at night sky, talked to the stars and they disagree. They say:"A big serving guy will upset Roger .. in quarterfinals and will proceed to win W".. Now wait for Jerry Seinfeld to tell that the stars certainly meant Ljubicic..

It could be Ancic.

However, I'm sick and tired of Federer and Sampras comparisons.

Re: He won three Wimbledons in a row..

Federer is far and away the best right now and I think will end up as the best ever.

I'm not going to look foolish and doubt "The King"! He's only lost to one player this entire year. Three of those matches were on Clay courts. No one should doubt him because he is going to continue to dominate!

I like this one. It means we'll have a new GS champion for a change.

Re: He won three Wimbledons in a row..

Most of that 1996 sampras was still troubled by the death of his coach...
he also lost that QF to one of the few players who always gave him trouble, Krajicek.
another thing about it was before 96 Krajicek was famous for always playing terrible at wimbledon despite being hyped as a player perfect for grass/wimbledon.

so who would fit that bill 10 years later?? Ljubicic
even though fed has beaten him alot recently, most have been close.

nah, in reality... Fed should win this tournament again, the pain of RG will drive him even more.

Don't forget about Safin. He's arguably more talented than Roger is, and he's certainly capable of catching fire and destroying the field like he has in New York and Melbourne. If I'm Roger, I want Marat as far away in the draw as possible.

Re: He won three Wimbledons in a row..

Gave it his all ?

You call playing no tune up events to the French Open and getting smacked in straights giving it your all ? Richard K. would've beaten Sampras with or without the rain delays, considering Richard is one of the few players to own a winning H2H against Sampras.

Completely different scenario.

he will win his fourth, no one can beat him on grass

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.

Re: He won three Wimbledons in a row..

To be fair to Sampras, 1996 was the year he came closest to winning RG. He beat two former champions (Brugera 93-94 and Courier 91-92) and I feel he only fell short to Kafelnikov due to a lack of stamina. I mean, that match against Courier must have taken a lot out of him.
