Clay Court Tennis = Lobotomy

Oh gosh, only now I understand what watching clay court tennis can do to you! I'm watching Queens and just can't get into it. It is another game! A game that I forgot to apreciatte! On clay serve is not a serve, break is not a break, return is not a return, volley is not a volley... It's anti-tennis! The likes of Nadal are destroying this game! They make everything that is worthy and beautifull in this game look usseles! Now I have to get used to what this game realy is about!
If Nadal thinks he is something, let him come to Wimbledon and proove it - I'm not watching clay anymore!

Grand Slam Season as of 2008:

Australian Open
Roland Garros
JOKE SLAM
U.S. Open

Ouch. The red army could be out in force over this one.
By the way, you need to edit your signature. 'Lleyton Hewitt'. How strange that I should pick up on that...

I'm not a big fan of clay, but it is nice to have a variety of players who can do well on different surfaces. Tennis could get a little boring otherwise. More than it already is.

Re: Clay Court Tennis = Lobotomy

LOL! This thread is the best! :P

Nadal and the other known claycourters didn't start the Open Era's claycourt season, dearie. Nor did they decide the year's schedule. They simply play their game. Blame the ATP/ITF, if you want.

And if you were truly a fan of the game, you'd appreciate the different nuances of tennis as it is played on different surfaces. Also, seeing your sig, your "great" Marat Safin once said "Grass is for cows." (Not a view I ascribe to, but it's funny you detest clay and like a player who prefers surfaces other than grass).

admiralpye: Safin didn't say that. If I remeber well, Rios was the one. And when I said grass I principaly ment faster courts in general - and Safin likes fast courts such as carpet.

I've also seen the first set of the Gerry Webber Open match between Nieminen and this german guy with a difficult name. Yeah, that was tennis. Serve and volley, serve and volley, double fault. The player who wasn't serving only did two points in the whole set. The rest were double faults. You could see from the people who was watching, they were having a really good time.

Para siempre Rafa

It isn't worth it Kristen

To me grass is the most boring surface going - just games that go 15-0. 30-0, 40-0, game - no variety or finesse or artistry at all.........

But everyone is different and entitiled to their own opinions. I loathe grass so I tend not to watch it and certainly not to go to see it live even though most of it is local to me - I just treat it as a kind of mid-season break where I can catch up on other things and save my money for the wonderful European clay court swing in July! Bastad, Suttgart, Umag, Sopot I can't wait!

So - live and let live is what I say! If Ddrago loves grass so much - perhaps I should do a house-swop with him!

I'm sure you're not old enough to remember, but those Sampras-Ivanisevic matches at Wimby were scintilliating tennis. Their entire matches consisted of 2 points that lasted more than 3 strikes of the ball.

Do you mean I'm contradicting myself by saying that I find tennis boring? If so, let me explain myself, as I often do on the intelligence-filled GM.

Tennis is not exactly the manliest, toughest, or thrilling sport of them all. In fact, as far as sports go, I think it's terribly boring. All of it, not just clay. Somehow, I love it. Yet, I can also appreciate that other people like, or are good at, other surfaces. [/end]

PS. Thanks for fixing the sig

Re: Clay Court Tennis = Lobotomy

Ddrago, I stand corrected:

"Grass is for cows" was coined in the 1960s by Manuel Santana and it has been echoed down the years by the likes of Ivan Lendl and Marcelo Rios among many others bamboozled by the lush lawns of SW19. (from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wimbledon...ide/779996.stm)
--
Safin had then said - "I give up on Wimbledon. It's not the tournament for me.I hate this. I can't move on grass. Every time I don't know how the ball is going to bounce, it's a real nightmare for me. So after a while, I just got bored. I lost motivation and gave up."

Safin, who famously said grass was "for cows" after he lost here in the first round in 2004... (from http://www.sportinglife.com/tennis/w...l_202027.html)

He did say it, though.
