Do you like Nadal's English???

Hilarious IMO, yet in it's own way kind of cool. Saw him give an interview today after his win with Chris Fowler. Didn't understand half of it, but it was just great. Anyone else see it. I'm not a fan of his, but he is a genuine guy, who really has his head on his shoulders.

Re: Do you like Nadal's English???

He actually is very smart, he's learnt english relatively quick. I've been trying to learn Spanish for...forever. I like his English, I didn't think his interview with Chris Fowler was a great example, but there have been good moments. I watched a press conference with him once, talking about James Blake, and he was actually very smart, and funny.

RAFAEL NADAL

Re: Do you like Nadal's English???

yes I like his English. At least he makes an effort to speak a language other than his mother tongue. I wonder how many tennis players with english as a mother tongue ever bother to learn Spanish, or any other language, let alone give an interview in one. So all credit to Rafa for learning a foreign language and giving media interviews in it in such a short time.

He wore a pink shirt during that interview. That alone makes me a fan.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

It is amazing how quickly he's learned English. Just like you, I've been trying to learn Spanish for years and I still suck - its hard to learn another language. I give him a lot of credit...he must have worked hard.

Re: Do you like Nadal's English???

I do think his Englsih is very cute, and applaud him for trying his darndest to speak it as often as possible. But as a fan, I wish it was better because he has a lot more tennis smarts than are often revealed in his English interviews. When I read his Spanish interviews I am often struck by the dichotomy between how smart he sounds in the two respective languages.

I like a lot of players.

Re: Do you like Nadal's English???

Nadal's English is a huge part of his charm. I like it a lot.

P.S. I wish someone would finally tell him that it's pressure, not pression. He's been making that mistake since last year. And it's a word you use all the time in tennis interviews.
