Has any player won a Singles and doubles of a slam?

I just wondered if anyone knew of players who had won the singles and the doubles of a slam and if it had ever been done before which i'm sure it has. Thanks

Re: Has any player won a Singles and doubles of a slam?

Roy Emerson was the only one who won the singles' and doubles' competition of all 4 Grand Slam events

in addition to that he won both competitions in the same year twice:

in 1966 he won both in Australia

in 1963 he won both in France

look here and scroll down for more details

In the open era for men's tennis, it has happened eleven times.

The king of single/double combos is John McEnroe who won the Wimbledon combo three times and the US Open combo twice.

The most recent combos have been Yevgeny Kafelnikov at the 1996 French Open and Stefan Edberg at the 1987 Australian Open.

Donald Budge "conquered" Wimbledon when he won the the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles titles in 1937 and 1938.

He's also the only man, other than Rod Laver, to have won The Grand Slam. I believe he is the only player to have achieved it in both singles and doubles.

Didn't Martina Hingis achieve this during the Australian Open in the 90s?

Re: Has any player won a Singles and doubles of a slam?

Lots of women have achieved that relatively recently (ie. within last 10 years). Hingis, Williamses, even Pierce...

Hewitt indeed won USO doubles in 2000 and singles in 2001, but obviously not in same year.

If I'm not mistaken, of active players Bhupathi is the closest to achieving the career box set: 6/12 FO-d, W-d, USO-d, FO-MD, W-MD, US-MD

(Serena has 10/12 lacking just AO-md and RG-md, Venus 8/12 and Hingis 7/12)

I think she actually did it all three times that she won singles... with three different partners?

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Has any player won a Singles and doubles of a slam?

Famous case: Bobby Riggs.

Of course, he's famous as having won the U.S. National Championship, (1939 & 1941, I think--when it was played at Forest Hills...)

But he won Wimby!
Quote:
Riggs became famous as a hustler and gambler, when, in his 1949 autobiography, he wrote that he had made $105,000 in 1939 by betting on himself at Wimbledon to win all three championships: the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Betting is legal in England, and he parlayed a modest $500 initial bet on his chances of winning the singles competition into a sum that would be equivalent to at least $1 million in 2006 dollars. According to Riggs, World War II kept him from taking his winnings out of the country, so that by 1946, when the war had ended, he then had an even larger sum waiting for him in England, fattened by compounding interest.
