Re: When more grass court tourneys?

Well because most tennis nowadays is geared for the grinders I dont see more tournies on grass being introduced. Its sad considering that tennis did start on the green stuff, and the other surfaces are way too long esp clay

My great tennis loves-Roger Federer, Paul Henry Mathieu and Marat Safin

Grigor Dimitrov & David Goffin - The future of tennis

Allez - Jerzy Janowicz, Jose Acasuso , Lleyton, Djokovic, Nalbandian, Clement, Nicolas Almagro, Stanislas Wawrinka

Re: When more grass court tourneys?

I would not see a true reason why they couldn't play until late July on grass to give the grass season a few more weeks and tournaments; that would be easily possible. You could easily have one or two new tournaments on grass in the UK or somewhere else in Europe. Or even on US territory for the players who want to keep on playing the US hardcourt tour after the grass season.

Some hardcourt tournaments would most likely need to be scratched in favour of new grass ones (there are enough).

To make the schedule smaller and slimmer in general, some of the indoor, clay and hardcourt tournaments would need to go, but no grass tournaments should be taken away as this stretch of the season is too short already anway.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

I've not thought about it that much calndar wise but it would be possible to cut one week from the clay season, one week from the early hard court season and one week from the late hard court season. Ad one of these weeks to the grass season and make the schedule two weeks smaller. Encorporate a grass AMS and boom! Tennis is like it should be

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

Re: When more grass court tourneys?

Even if they don't add tournaments, there should be an extra week between Roland Garros and Wimbledon. It's lame that a player like Nadal only has two weeks to prepare for Wimbledon and essentially can't take a break after winning RG. How will he ever get good on grass?

Re: When more grass court tourneys?

Contrary to myths, in the past there wasn't really more grass events. See this link, which shows relative percentages of playing surfaces on ATP between 1980 and 2005:

It will also go long way explaining why injuries are so much more prevalent nowadays.

grass blows. noone plays on the stuff anymore. leave the # of tournaments they have now. the only suggestion i have would be to have newport the week right after the french and then move all the other tournaments back one week.

Re: When more grass court tourneys?

In an ideal world, if they're going to reorganise the tennis schedule for 2008, they need to add a TMS sort of level tune-up event on Grass and add at least a week between Roland Garros and Wimbledon - 2 would be even better (why we play Wimbledon when we do baffles me - the weather is nearly always better just afterward). That would fit in with the series concept they want to develop - the Roland Garros series, the Wimbledon series, and the US Open series. The Australian is still an anomoly but it will be unless they move that to end of march and fiddle with Indian Wells and Miami to make them the tune-up events for the Australian.

The tennis calendar is a nightmare - they should have taken a grip on it years ago but it's just been dithering year after year after year.

I also wouldnt want anymore grass court tournaments, UNLESS they were in england and quite closeby to me then I could attend them
