Please help me figure out Brad Gilbert....

He’s not as classy as Drysdale. He’s not as insightful as John McEnroe. He’s nowhere near as cool as Courier. He doesn’t have any neat catchphrases like Patrick McEnroe (God help me, but I love “Dropper!”). He can’t go 30 seconds without comparing tennis matchups to: (American) football or prizefighting. He has that condescending “I-calls-‘em-like-I-see-‘em” attitude.

So, why, why, WHY do I still like him? My theories are: (1) There’s something wrong with me; (2) He’s just a really complex character….I think there’s something wrong with me.

Re: Please help me figure out Brad Gilbert....

he is a tool, he kept making fun of Benneteau, when Ivan was moping the floor with him. In 3rd set Benneteau makes a over head slam, after missing 2 before, and Gilber says "look at Ivan's face, he looks shocked that Juilan made a over head" was kind of funny.

Re: Please help me figure out Brad Gilbert....

he is like a big dumb/smart tennis filing cabinet.

i enjoy him too, its unexplainable -but we don't have to live with him and his long winded-ness.

i think its his attitude i like or his attitude towards the game.

now if your into the Pmac, your really, really crazy:retard:

gilbert is interesting.... i like him because of his crazy goofball-ness.... he's a dork. but at least he's different... if all the commentators were the same... we'd go nuts.

I like Gilbert I think he is the one with most insight into "tdoays" game because he was coaching just 2 years ago, he also is more direct with his comments, he is a dork but in the good way lol. I think he just says it like it is, no bs, not saying that the others dont but like I said he ismore direct.

Re: Please help me figure out Brad Gilbert....

He is comfortable with himself, he doesn't take himself too seriously, and *gasp* he actually does know a thing or two about tennis despite a bunch of losers on a tennis forum claiming he is dumb as a brick.

Andreev - Cilic - Dolgopolov - De Bakker - Djokovic - Gulbis - Haase - Hrbaty - J Johansson - Kucera - Kuznetsov - Russell - Simon - Sweeting - Thron

He is who he is which is basically an annoying guy. He does know a thing or two about tennis though. The guy had very little talent but made his way into the top 4 at age 28 or 29. He certainly didn't do that by hitting monster FH's and volleying like Edberg. His book, "Winning Ugly" is also a very good read for anyone who plays tennis.

He also has a newer book--I've Got Your Back: Coaching Top Performers from Center Court to the Corner Office. I just ordered it online for $4 (including S/H). Hopefully he can coach me to the corner office because I'm sure as hell not going to make Center Court.

I really like BG. He does know his stuff, no doubt about that. Plus, he makes me laugh with some of his comments and predictions.

I used to hate him, but I feel comfortable enough to admit in this thread that now I do enjoy him.
