Third quarter of the draw

As predicted at the beginning of the tournament, the third quarter of the draw (the one where Roddick and Ljubo were the two main seeds) is the quarter of the upsets.

The R16 matches are:

Martin vs Benneteau,

and Ramirez-Hidalgo vs. Ljubo or Monaco.

It's the real chance of all these players to ever make a slam semi-final in their career (and this includes Ivan )

EDIT: the bad news is that Rafa's prospective semi-final looks pretty easy now (to compare with Federer grinding vs. a solid opponent like Nalbandian, Gaudio or Davidenko)

GUGA ON CLAY = MOZART

KING FEDERER

GAUDIOSAFINGASQUET

"It felt like you're in the Sahara and you just see the hills and there's no ending" (Kevin Kim, after being asked what it was like playing against Rafael Nadal in the 2006 French Open)

Re: Third quarter of the draw

It's going to be Ljubicic or Martin but it'll be Martin probably.

And if that happens I'll be very happy, because Martin deserves it after being so consistent for so many years!

Re: Third quarter of the draw

Ljubicic better take this opportunity to get a good slam result because I don't think he'll be this lucky next year.

I like many tennis players including Ancic, Cilic, Djokovic, Gasquet, Monfils, Murray, Troicki, Tsonga

Rafa will cruise in his semi-final. For all those who argued against Roger's draw being tougher than Rafa's just look at this

Martin could reach the semi's. This is a guy who lost 1 and 0 to Federer this year.

Well, Rafa does have to overcome Hewitt and Blake/Monfils/Djokovic en route to the semis. Berdych and Ancic/Robredo is about as difficult.
With the 3rd round match Rafael just played, I think the scedules evn each other out pretty well.

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

Re: Third quarter of the draw

I still think that Blake has a chance to beat Nadal. He may not have enough ability to do that, but, because of the H2H, Nadal can start the match very nervous and ruin everything for his side...

Yes, the other rounds are fair but the semis will be very tough for Roger and a joke for Rafa.

I'd prefer to play a tough 3rd round match instead of playing 2 finals in a row. If Fed/Nalbandian reach the semis, one of them will have to do it.

Fed/Nalby is not a final...tennis has become a bipolar world; there are no major clay slam finals besides a Nadal Federer final...sadly this means that Hamburg is no longer a TMS.

Re: Third quarter of the draw

Ljubicic has gotten lucky with the easiest draw possible.

I'd love to see Martin make it through to the semis, but look out for Benneteau. He's been on fire! I couldn't believe he beat Stepanek today, among others.

Djokovic // Del Potro // Paire // Thiem // M. Zverev // Youzhny
Coric // Khachanov // Donaldson // A. Zverev // Bublik
Ferrero // Rafter

Why wouldn't he? He's the real No. 2, right?

Stepanek is the latest victim of the Hingis curse.

Re: Third quarter of the draw

And I thought Radek was set for a semifinal here. He must be really disappointed with such a great chance slipping by.

Djokovic // Del Potro // Paire // Thiem // M. Zverev // Youzhny
Coric // Khachanov // Donaldson // A. Zverev // Bublik
Ferrero // Rafter
