Would Mary Carrillo and Johnny Mac STFU about Wimbledon already!

I'm trying to watch the Nadal-PHM match but every five seconds either John or Mary > if Nadal would beef up his serve then he could play at Wimbledon; less topsin... play at Wimbledon; better volleys... play at Wimbledon.

And they do this all the time with every player at every tournament... the Austrailian Open is going on and already they're talking about Wimbledon.

Folks there is a reason why the grass court season is only 5 seconds long... No one gives a fcuk! Stop talking about it!!!

Try living in England - trust me - our commentators talk about it non-stop too........"grass, Wimbledon, grass, Wimbledon," etc ad nauseam I just try and ignore them -or else their obsession with the slippery green stuff would drive you crazy

That's subjective but even then it's annoying that the commentators can't stop babbling about the grass when there's a CLAY tournament on.

It is the only major/master series event in England so I can understand why it is mentioned. It is the best chance most in England have of visiting a top tennis event.

Not sure why American commentators are talking about it all the time.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 19 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 26 Master Series.
Nadal 15 GS, 30 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 12 GS, 5 Year End Masters, 30 Master Series.

I guess because they have more chance of an American winner at Wimbedon than they have on the clay!! Roddick has been a finalist there a couple of times so I suppose it generates more interest there.

Because they don't have any great players on the stuff and it's not as interesting for them as Wimbledon.

Re: Would Mary Carrillo and Johnny Mac STFU about Wimbledon already!

I wasn't listening to too much of the commentary since I watched the match on a slight delay and fast forwarded between most of the points. I could see that being annoying. I agree that the American media tend to blow off the French, in large part because we don't have many good clay courters, particularly on the men's side.

However, I think the media, and tennis public in general over here have always looked at Wimbledon as the ultimate major just because of all the tradition. The US Open is probably a fairly close 2nd for most just because it's our country's national championship. The French and Australian are a distant 3rd and 4th. I would guess in France it's probably the same with the US and Australian being way behind in importance. Maybe our French friends can share their opinion. Perhaps you view the French as a clear #1 followed by Wimbledon? And the Aussies, I would think look at the French and US as the distant 3rd and 4th.

Do you forget that tennis began on grass??

It's cool and all not to like it and stuff, but seriously, people on here preach about being "Real tennis fans" and whatever based on who they cheer for or not, but certainly all tennis fans remember and realize the impact and importance the grass had in the history of tennis?

Ahhh geez Deb...you're taking on the fun out of making fun of grass!

But yes, you are right...grass has its place in the history of the game.

Although too bad it can't just be part of the history of the game...like wooden racquets.

Sorry Deb... you know I like you.

A big for the upcoming GRASS season.
