To everyone on this board, We all could learn from Blake today

The odds are stacked against you!
The naysayers are loud & clear!
Your home country & supporters even doubt you!
Some even say that you doubt yourself!

How do you fight against all of that & conquer what seems impossible? Here's what you do...

You remember what brought you through just two years ago. You stand and pull on the spirit of your father who as a black man had to have faced opposition during his early years & living during the civil rights movement. You stand and pull on the energy that made your family a great bi-racial comrade that produced an ivy-league child and more importantly, a great person. Finally, you stand and pull on the strength that made you a great tennis player who is ranked 8th in the world & will not be intimidated just because others say your opponent is better than you.

James Blake - you did it today. I don't know whether you will win the tournament but I can't help but be proud of you.

You have to go through that just to beat almagro in a tennis match?

I doubt that he thought of all that.

Good win and i'm happy for him, but it's really not that deep

Couldn't just be that he's good at tennis then?

Not according to what I heard on this board. I would bet that Blake thought at least once - "everybody is doubting me but I'm gonna come with it."

What the hell? Blake discovered a cure for cancer? he won Roland Garros?................

............Ah, no, he defeated Almagro

Do we need to get so dramatic because of this?

Re: To everyone on this board, We all could learn from Blake today

I love these passionate replies. But just 2 days ago ... the world was over for Blake. Almagro would DESTROY him. "He had no chance." Now panties are wet because a thread talks about winning when all say you can't. Oh, very appropriate indeed!

Re: To everyone on this board, We all could learn from Blake today

Not everyone said he would win.

It's ok that you are happy because of this (i am too), but there is a thread about his win and you make it look like he defeated Federer and Nadal in the same tournament

Re: To everyone on this board, We all could learn from Blake today

But ukofart - Almagro was Federer. I'm a bigtime Blake fan - has been even through his bonehead years. But go check out that other thread from two days ago, (The "Hold the Presses" thread). Blake was trashed so badly & Almagro was so supremely uplifted, these people almost made me think I was wrong. I didn't see anyone coming to Blake's defense in that thread. Even his supporters were saying stuff like, "I like Blake but I don't think he has a chance." Now because I start a post saying this, it's overly-dramatic. Those replies in that other one are the ones that turned out dramatic. No ones, expecting Blake to win RG but you have to see the parallel in this & life. It's quite hilarious.

You are sounding like a William's fan on WTF.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

James won?
I didn't think he could beat Almagro, but now that he's actually done it, I'm so proud.
Good luck to him tomorrow!
