Thumbs up P. H. Mathieu (29) Beats F. Serra: 6-0, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6)

All right!!!!!

At first i thought that mathieu was winning so easily because he wanted to choke later on from a winning position (as always), but i'm happy that despite a shaky start of the second set he could make up his mind and fight the win.

Serra played very badly in the first set and Mathieu was really inspired.
In the second set, Serra got to a 4-0 advantage over Paulo and i was considering a bagel , but Paulo became much more agressive and fought greatly.

The third set was very much a coinflip, any other player would have gained a big momentum after an impressive comeback, but not Paulo . When Serra broke and went up *3-1 i was really worried this would be another 5 set match choke from Mathieu, but, Paulo inmediately broke back and i could rest a little longer
Then it was pretty much a routine set until the tiebreak. Serra had 3 sets points in that tiebreak, but he finally lost it and Paulo won the tiebreak.

Good luck in the next round

NALBANDIAN / SAFIN / FERRERO / MOYA / LUCZAK / DEL POTRO

How is it possible that someone outchoked PHM?

Well done, Paulo, though!

Funnily I had the exact same tought...PHM likes to lead 6/0 6/2 5/2 so that he can choke properly

Anyway, I was impressed with his level today...Now Rafa...

Serra might play like crap, but today Paulo's brain was working well! Maybe he didn't want to choke again so he lagged the match in 2nd and 3rd sets first! Another exciting point is he beat a Frenchman!

Stan The Paris Man

Cheer for: Wawrinka Murray Ljubicic Gonzalez Mahut Nishikori Soderling Tipsarevic Mathieu Monfils Muller Tsonga Berdych Acasuso O.Rochus Kiefer...

He hasn't lost a set so far but I guess things will be different on saturday...

Anyway... congrats to him
Paulo showed a good mental today. Coming back from 0-4 in the second and saving SP for Serra in the 3rd.

Paulo I was impressed that he won the 3rd set tiebreak coming from behind, i expected a 5-set loss at that point.
