Full list of seeds out for AO

Seeds named for Aussie Open

Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt has been seeded at 15 in the men's draw of the Australian Open as he attempts to end his ordinary record at his home tournament.

Seedings for the open, which begins here on Monday, were announced on Thursday, with world number ones Andy Roddick and Justin Henin-Hardenne receiving the top seedings.

Australia's Davis Cup hero Mark Philippoussis has been seeded five places above Hewitt at number 10.

Defending men's champion Andre Agassi will attempt to win his fifth Australian Open crown with seeding four, behind Swiss Roger Federer (2) and Spaniard Juan-Carlos Ferrero (3).

Venus Williams has controversially been given the number three seeding in the women's draw despite barely playing since Wimbledon 2003.

Kim Clijsters, still no certainty to take her place in the open due to an ankle injury suffered in the Hopman Cup, is seeded one place behind her fellow Belgian Henin-Hardenne.

The women's seedings illustrate the sustained rise of Russian tennis, with the countryman providing a quarter of the 32 seeds.

Guillermo hasn't officially withdrawn yet, but I guess it's very likely to happen in the next few days.

Re: Full list of seeds out for AO

I read he needed three days of rest first and then he would see. I'm hoping he's able to play, but I just don't know

The rumours I've heard all point to the fact that he will not play - it's a real shame, but obviously he will wait til the last possible moment to withdraw in case he does make a quick recovery, which is why his name still remains in the draw at this stage..

Re: Full list of seeds out for AO

Why say "Oh no..."? It is better for him to rest and recover, than to force something. It's a pity he won't play, but I prefer to see him play well later on in the season, than attempting to play now.

Re: Full list of seeds out for AO

Lleyton got really lucky because had Younes not had his injury and went fairly deep in Doha, Hewitt woulda been seeded outside the top 16 that woulda been very weird to see
