KIEFER TALKS DIRTIER
Whilst Sharapova was fairly restrained in her choice of colourful language, Nicolas Kiefer let himself go completely on court, and will be lucky to get away with just the one warning he received during his epic five-setter against Marc Gicquel.
The German took an instant dislike to one of the line judges on Court number two, ultimately launching a spectacular verbal volley - containing at least two words that are entirely unsuitable for this column - at the official.
And then, just as the crowd did not think it could get any worse, the controversial thirteenth seed spat in the judge's direction to show displeasure at one particular decision. His action won him a warning, but it was his final misdemeanour - aiming a shot at an innocent ball-girl - which most shocked onlookers.
Amazingly, there was no apology forthcoming from Kiefer after the match, indeed his only explanation on being questioned over the incidents being, "Did I do that? That's me."
Only time will tell if he will be punished retrospectively, but here's hoping he will be.
There was no news of the ball-girl's wellbeing.
