Hold the presses ... you have been fed a LIE!

You've heard Brad Gilbert say he's the 3rd best clay courter. You've been told in that other thread that he's gonna destroy Blake & leave the US with no players left. You've heard that he's had a great clay season. Well, let's check the records.

This does not indicate a record of "the 3rd best clay courter". He has been streaky at best & has some results that are very questionable.
Blake would have to play very badly (yes, he's capable of that) to be destroyed. But Blake could very well beat him in 3 based on the records.
Finally, yes he won Valencia but that draw tells us nothing. Last week, he went out to Starace and has also lost to Mauro, Ramirez, Massu on clay and even to Andreev on the slow rebound ace.

So don't believe the lies, the USA has a chance. Let's go Blake!!!

Re: Hold the presses ... you have been fed a LIE!

Clutching at straws.

It seems you haven't watched much of the clay season have you? He won Valencia as a qualifer and he also qualified for Rome and tested Federer.

Only way Blake is winning in 3 sets is if he hits less than 10 unforced errors, not happening against a good claycourt player.

Thanks for the laughs.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

And got to the semis of Barcelona before losing to Nadal.

The loss to Starace last week threw me a little but he looked like he was in cruise control against Arthurs and I think he'll be too hot for Blake to handle.

But George, look at the results. I'm just basing it on what I see. Other people have tested Roger on grass, does that make them the next best thing on grass. Time will tell about this guy but based on these records, he's streaky. If he's that good why the lost just last week for starters

Re: Hold the presses ... you have been fed a LIE!

It doesn't matter whether he is indeed the #3 claycourt player or not, what matters is how he matches against James. The only way Almagro is losing is if he braincramps and decides to engage in a hitting contest. Not likely to happen.

Looking at the European clay court season, his loses have been to Nadal and Federer. There is a strong possibility that he tanked against Starace to get to Paris early.

Re: Hold the presses ... you have been fed a LIE!

I might think Blake had a chance if it were best of 3. Best of 5? I don't think so somehow. Almagro would have to play a really shitty match - either that or James has discovered a new affinity for the red stuff. I'm dubious.

I know exactly what I am looking at. Overall recent form no one tries their hardest the week before a Slam.

Pushed Nadal and Federer to close matches on clay and Blake wouldn' t win enough matches on the surface to get there on clay.

You haven't watched him if play recently, cause if you had and came up with analysis I want some of the pot you're smoking.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes, Blake may lose but the fact that all of you are so 100% sure is beyond me. His results do not indicate that you can ink him in for the 3rd round.

Moya took a set off Nadal but Blake beat Moya. I'm just saying, calm down on the exaggerations & let the match happen.

OK, so i must tell you to look at his game! Don't you think he is one of the best claycourters right now? He's not number 3, with that part I agree but Top-10 on clay.... sure he is. He's a much better player than Blake on clay, that doesn't it is granted that he's gonna win but very likely

Re: Hold the presses ... you have been fed a LIE!

I want to be optimistic for Blake, too, but him being capable of beating Almagro in three seems overshooting it.

But who knows what's going to happen?
Hopefully things will go his way.

You haven't seen him play have you? It's obvious enough that this is the case and as for being calm. You are the ones talking up Blake's chances and the only chance Blake will have is when he books his flight to London, he is not winning this match.

So just because someone has been hot automatically mean they stay hot. That's another bad assumption. Just ask the Detroit Pistons

3rd = David Nalbandian

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
